my DS received an LOE, he requested an overnight visit and... Crickets... No email saying yay or nay ... I put in a personal day to take off from work ... Should we go anyway????

Yeah, I would agree and give them a call ASAP. I think this would be prudent to avoid being turned away and being disappointed.

Whats cool about an over night visit, your DS will be assigned, mostly likely to a Yearling, who has asked to take on this responsibility. The Cadet must be in good standing. Your DS will be referred to as a "drag" while he gets a chance to see the inside. Have your DS take some home work, PT clothes and ask questions. He'll have the opportunity to interact in class rooms and with other Cadet.

When your DS has completed his visit, he'll have the opportunity to meet with admissions and review his file. In my opinion this is the nugget for the visit.

As a nice gesture, have your son give his Cadet escort a gift card from Grant Hall. I wouldn't give homemade or store bought baked goods. Most Cadets are very health conscience and watch their weight

If you're going with him its a nice time to take the two hour tour- walk over to trophy point (read a book, enjoy the view, tour the cemetery and Old Cadet chapel). Take a history book about West Point and learn about the importance of the longest operational US military post. You'll enjoy it too

When is the best time to visit? Would December or mid January be good?

Thank you so much!!!! I'll have my DS. Call on Monday .- and the gift card is a great idea!

When is the best time to visit? Would December or mid January be good?

Not December, too many things going on for cadets, TEEs, ready to leave on break and of course the grey weather. Fall ideally (although we're almost past that), or the spring (but not spring break week for cadets/plebe parent weekend).

December is closed for touring .- I checked last week , should my DS wear shirt and tie when meeting with the admissions officer?

I would call and ask admission when the best times for an overnight. There is always something going on there. If you can make it happen, after Thanksgiving to mid-
December or mid January to spring break. You want to get in there before appointments are made. Like I mentioned before, meeting with admissions is the nugget of the trip.

Actually, plebes selected for CPRC (cadet public relations council) host prospects. The following year (as yearlings), they may get to have a longer Thanksgiving break to meet individually w/ prospects at home (or do group meetings).

Do call today...probably just an oversight. Go now before it gets cold and wet up there!

If one has an LOA would they still meet with an admissions rep?

Yes, if they want to, but its more a meet you thing, ask any questions. DS did because it was his region who was on duty that day. He did it just to say hi, more or less, and put a face with a name. Short and sweet.

You guys are the best!!!!!! My DS is confirmed for the overnight!!!! I would have gone crazy overthinking all the wrongs!!!! Thank you truly!!!! I'll let you know how it goes on Monday!!!

He'll be crushed again -- even after he enters the academy. It's part of the process. ;)

I wish him and you all the best.
