Where Are They Now?

DS#1 (AROTC, commissioned 2015, AD Sept 2016) is in a holding pen in Portsmouth, NH...on the way home via El Paso after 50 wks. in the ME. Fiance picking him up this evening. We'll see them tomorrow. She gets first dibbs. Our larder is filled with adult beverages and pork products.

He goes back at the end of next week for another 5-6 mos.

Likes his job and loves the responsibility/accountability. He is in the Signal Corps. Has confidence in and respect for both sides of his chain of command. Not loving some of the issues that plague all large bureaucratic organizations. Sometimes I hear them referred to as "Big Army". Better to get hit with that early in order to flatten the learning curve later.

He's blessed in a hundred different ways and I think he is finally beginning to understand that.

Best wishes to all, but especially the 2015 commissionees and their families.

Thanks brother. I'm sure I'll keep dropping in, lest certain video game parents have their run of the place. How's your kiddo doing? Enjoying ROTC?

Hi Scout, DS is doing great! He is jazzed as he just received his ASUs' and about to get them tailored. He is excited to start BOLC. His mom and I are excited sine we just wrote him his last check for his college expenses! Safe travels sir.

Five Guys is over priced and not nearly as good as In and Out. We have both in Los Angeles and there is no comparison. When you go into the Five Guys store, it looks like they copied In and Out

Everytime we visit DS in TX we say we are going to stop at In and Out and it has yet to happen, BUT that's okay because we have the true best burger joint...Five Guys! I am only upset with this thread right now because it is lent, and now I want a burger, but it is Friday so I will have to wait until tomorrow to satisfy my craving.

This tells me you have not been in a Five Guys. In n Out is Wendy's with thousand island dressing.

It's just burgers folks! Keep playing nice! :D I will add that one of my disappointments on our cross country trip last year was that we didn't hit an In n Out burger. I was hoping to do that, given the great reviews from some on these forums!

In and Out sucks. Five Guys does not suck (although I don't like their fries.... no matter how many they want to dump in the bag).

Sigh! Kinnem, always the peacemaker.

Have you thought about taking your skills to the West Bank, the South China Sea, Kashmir?

Five Guys copied In n Out. In n Out is the best. If you don't believe me, how come every In n Out has a huge line waiting for food? I can walk in to a 5 Guys and order as soon as I get there.

People wait because In and Out is poorly managed.

I also wait in line at Comcast, you think that's an indication that I'm enjoying my time?

In nOut is a machine. They make everything fresh to order. We used to call it In an Hour Burger, but we were always willing to wait. I would not go out of my way to a 5 Guys, I live in Fl, we have them here, but, if there was an In n Out anywhere in this state I would make a special trip. Five Guys is ok, but not nearly as good as In n Out. I get the impression you have never lived out west.

I've had In and Out and I've had Five Guys....

In and Out is not in the same league as Five Guys. It's California's poor excuse for relevance, and it fails.

Honestly, I like both, but I think the cheese is much better at In 'n' out. It tastes more like cheddar.

I live in Los Angeles and in my area they are about 2 miles apart. I have been their once and wasnt impressed. When I went to visit my son in Indiana, we ate there twice and again not impressed. He eats their occasionally but when he comes back home from school, the first place he visits is In and Out. Like I said, 5 guys is over priced and while not bad, I can live without it.

Well, I decided to do what I did last time we camped out in the In-n-Out vs Five Guys neighborhood - bought some nice ground beef, made patties, got some Schmidt's potato buns (brushed with garlic olive oil and oven toasted), sliced off some Wyke Farms Vintage Aged English cheddar from Somerset, prepped some sweet onion, and directed DH to the grill. It's 53 degrees in Annapolis - balmy January day, and no rain! Think I'll do some grilled tomatoes with balsamic dressing on the side.

If someone would deliver some good fries here, all would be well. I like 'em hand-cut, skin on, medium skinny.

Eating in about 20...

Folks, this is an important debate for sure but greater than this... I drink Coke but wouldn't drink a Pepsi if you paid me!

(Doing my best to stir things up and move to one of the greatest food-related debates of all time )

Good for him. I eat my mom's cooking when I go home because it's familiar. It's still rubbish. I ate at 3 different In n Outs. Couldn't believe that mediocre burger and flavorless bun were so popular.
