I received and accepted the 3 year ad scholarship and am going into my second semester of my freshman year at college. Would I still be able to re-apply for the 4 year scholarship, as I could really use the money, or would I lose the 3 year scholarship?

You cannot reapply. If your school has funds available and you're a highly ranked cadet, it's possible they can upgrade your scholarship to a 3 1/2 year, but I think you would have heard by now. I suggest speaking to your cadre to see if they have any suggestions.

No you can not reapply for a 4 YR scholarship, as those are only offered to HS students. As mentioned by the previous poster there is a chance for a scholarship upgrade to 3.5 yr, but that is not likely. If an upgrade is given to you, then it takes away another scholarship allocation for your school for that Fiscal Year.

@MohawkArmyROTC
Just curious, do you know roughly the total number of 0.5 upgrades that are awarded each year? If a ROO is short on his mission/goal, would that be a key reason to award a 3.5 to a high achieving non-contracted cadet?

If a ROO is short on his mission why would he throw money at someone who is already obligated (or on track to be obligated). We are going to be looking to spend money on the next Cadet on the OML that isn't contracted yet, not the kid who is supposed to contract next fall. Not sure how other Brigades do it, but if you go to school in the northeast and you already have a scholarship or an offer don't expect an upgrade unless things change. Keirad...ever thought about getting a part time job?

So to your point, why are ANY 0.5 year extensions handed out? There are quite a few 0.5 year extension recipients on this forum including my DS. Why hand out more bait to a fish that is already in the boat?

I have no answer @AROTC-dad , however it seems the brigade our kids are in tends to favor upgrades, my daughter was told from a school in a different brigade that .5 year upgrades haven't happened in a few years, however all schools my DD visited in her current brigade used that as a carrot and she actually was upgraded about a month into the school year.

That is correct, each BDE handles scholarship management differently. Some BDEs give .5 yr upgrades, while other BDEs use the money to create a new scholarship opportunity for another cadet. Prior to 2013, there was additional scholarship money available so a lot of upgrades were made. Post-2013, scholarship money has decreased, so each BDE manages upgrades differently.
