Where Are They Now?

Nobody will ever win this debate, people will always think the place they grew up with or have great memories of is the best place on earth. We have a small chain in Seattle called Dick's Drive In, it's an institution, but when people come to visit they can't understand what's so special about the undersized burgers and greasy fries. There is a line at every window from when they open to when they close at 2 am.

In and Out was fine.

Five Guys is OK but their buns fall apart to quick because I always have them put to many toppings on it.

Best burger I ever had was a Soul Burger made at a joint in town owned by Eddie Cotton, the Eddie Cotton Soul Burger. A hand made hand ground burger with cheese, onions, a sauce his mama made, and a hand made hot link split on top....best thing on earth. Eddie has long passed away and the place is now condos but to this day that is the burger that comes off my grill....still haven't perfected the sauce yet.

Like I said, it's called comfort food for a reason, we all love what we know best.

"One eyed jack" slider, USS Nimitz "dirty shirt " wardroom after a night trap...only the LSO debrief could ruin that...:)

Jeez. Can't we take the burger reminiscences to a new thread? This was such a great thread before it got off track.

Taste is subjective so what I think is good someone else may hate it. However, if there is one thing In and Out does well is service. While there is always a line, the line moves fast. If I were to ever go to McDonalds and had the same number of people in line, I would probably have to kill myself.

People wait because In and Out is poorly managed.

I also wait in line at Comcast, you think that's an indication that I'm enjoying my time?

I do drink Pepsi if there isnt any else, but I love my Coke. Whenever I go to Vegas, I notice that all they sell there is Pepsi. Same is true for Boston. When I took my other son there fore school, It was hard to fine Coke.

Folks, this is an important debate for sure but greater than this... I drink Coke but wouldn't drink a Pepsi if you paid me!

(Doing my best to stir things up and move to one of the greatest food-related debates of all time )

Go ahead and try, but really it is like herding cats! DOGS are just so much easier when it comes to herding?

Let's take it off track a little more.
How many of you opt for dogs over cats?
We are equal opportunity pet owners. Own both until just recently. Now just down to 1 dog.

Back on track.
My DS is still in Abilene. Grandbaby girl was born in November, a few weeks preemie, but in good health. DS is just doing very short TDYs (5-7 days) every few weeks. He is on the books to re-deploy and be gone when his little girl turns 1, and probably longer.
~ Oh well welcome to the military...Service before self. Thankfully his wife is an AF brat so she bucks up and smiles through it!

Congrats to you and your family Pima!!! Nothing better!

The last time I reported on DS on this thread he was at TBS. He graduated last March and went off to Twentynine Palms for 6 months of Communications school. He then managed to be in the general area of home for a couple weeks; so we saw him a little bit when he wasn't visiting his friends in this part of the country. He sold his Jeep and flew off to Okinawa for two years. He's loving it. Loves his Marines and his responsibilities. He flew to Tokyo to celebrate the New Year and he hopes to find more opportunities to travel further in that part of the world. Mom is making plans for us to go see him in October.

I had a little text chat with him this week. It's hard for him to get his platoon all together as elements are attached to other units that require some communications ability. He did manage to do that one day this week and he planned the entire day around the movie "Hacksaw Ridge". Everyone PTed all AM doing stretcher carries and buddy carries. They then had a cookout and watched "Hacksaw Ridge" with leadership discussions after. He managed to get $400 from some bucket of Corps money to fund it. I thought it was a pretty creative approach with a pretty good theme. Hope he keeps it up!

BTW, thanks for asking @cb7893 . I never miss an opportunity to talk about the kid! :) And how is your's doing?

Glad to hear all is well. Having them happy and challenged and happy because they're challenged is about 99% of it.

We had ours for about four days before he headed off with his fiancee to see her family. After a year in Kuwait, he got a couple of weeks' leave in the states, but it seems like a third of the time he is in transit.

He is at a very busy location with a lot of human, cargo, and data traffic. He complains sometimes about being busy but knows he wouldn't want it any other way. He likes and respects both sides of his chain of command.

New orders were just cut to head east (not as far as Korea or Japan), for a 4-6 mo. deployment. It will be a whole new landscape, but he is getting exactly what he asked for. Which brings us back to the happy and challenged thing.

@Jcleppe, where are your DS's now?

@kinnem, where is your DS now?

How, what are they doing?

Please help break this cycle.

Son #1 is on hold after completing SOF Career Course. Starts the CA course in April. He came home for a week and leaves to go back Thursday. He's going to do some traveling before the course starts, Aruba, the Iceland and Ireland for St. Pattys Day.

Son #2 is still at flight school and has his first flight in the Blackhawk tomorrow.

That should be a hell of a St. Patty's Day!

Is that his Captains Career Course? I think I know what SOF is. What is CA? Apologize for my ignorance. Does he know his duty station after CA course? I thought he was Aviation like DS #2.

I'm sure he has it scoped out, but if he hasn't, remind him to take his speedo from Aruba to Iceland and visit the Blue Lagoon.

Thanks for the update on both the boys. Glad to see all seems to be going well.

Make sure and report back on where to find the best whale blubber in Iceland. I'm sure some folks will take issue and consume a few pages on this thread.

Son home from 4 month deployment to X'Jxxxxxxxi, where he earned a combat medal and flew almost 100 missions.

While he was gone, his infant daughter learned to sit up, crawl, take her own selfie, eat real food, push "send", and she grew two teeth and a ton of reddish brown hair. They are getting re-acquainted and he's fallen in love all over again.

God is so good.

Usually late to the party with these things, but currently an Ordnance Officer in a maintenance company with 10th Mountain. Really enjoy it so far, anyone who reads this feel free to ask questions.
