Rank - 8/867
SAT - 1280
AP- 8 taking this year, 21 taken in total along with honors classes
EC - Environmental Club (Treasurer), National Honors Society, Mu Alpha Theta, 100+ volunteering hours at a non-profit place fo disabled children
Work- seasonal job for 2 months for a photography company

Unrelated, but how does one get above a 5.0 GPA?
It is a weighted GPA. Lots of different ways schools calculate GPA and even more ways schools generate weighted GPS. At my son's HS they had both. One scale out of 4.o where an A was a 4.0. No A+. So if you had a 4.0 you had to have A's in every class. The weighted scale was out of 6.0, but it only counted core classes. An A in honors or AP classes was a 6.0, a B 5.0 etc. For level 1 classes (not honors or AP) an A was 5.0, B 4.0 etc. Then level 2 classes an A was 4.0, B 3.0 etc.

This is just one example of a weighted system. Lots of different systems and scales, that why it is so difficult to compare GPA. IMHO class rank is better. One that I saw was an unweighted GPA of 4.2 out of a 4.0 scale. That didn't make much sense to me. I could only assume that there were A+ that gave more than 4.0. If that was the case shouldn't the scale have been higher than 4.0.

In my interview I only had a couple years of HS lacrosse, but my PMS said that a good PFT speaks volumes about your mindset when it comes to physical fitness and in a case of a lack of HS sports

Ahhh... I had never heard of the 6.0 scale. My school just has a 5.0 scale for weighted GPA, where all AP and certain 'upper level' honors courses get the extra point
