AROTC 2nd Board notifications

Very few 3 years on the 2nd board were upgraded to a 4 year on the third board, not saying it is likely but it happened. Now talk to all the schools on your list, call the ROO and get the details for each school. Yes it is different for each. My daughter had 1 public and 2 private as options, the public was less money for tuition but she would be on the hook for room and board all 4 years, so the savings the first year did not help.one of the private schools waived room and board but not until her scholarship activated, the most expensive school offered room and board waiver for all four years. That helped a lot. We took loans for her tuition freshman year and the school gave her some academic money. She also had schools in two different batallions, one has not had any 3.5 year upgrades for the last few years and the other batallion has. She chose the school that offered 4 year room and board and possibility of an upgrade knowing if something happens with her scholarship down the road she will have to transfer. She was upgraded so we paid tuition for one semester and this semester was covered.

So talk to each ROO and the financial aid at each school. (She contacted the ROO and I contacted financial aid to understand our options) she has a small Stanford loan and I have a parent plus loan and it all worked out.

Do you mind listing your school choices?
I'm confused by your first sentence. Are you saying a decent amount of 3 years get upgraded to 4 years or are you saying that that is unlikely?

Most upgrades occur during first semester of freshman year assuming good GPA and APFT score.
The upgrade is to 3.5 year

There were a few last year on the third board where second board winners were upgraded. Probably not likely but it happens. Some batallions have upgrades to a 3.5 and some do not. Depends where your schools are located. Those would be done at the school level with approval through the batallion.

I'm not being ungrateful l. Really. I didn't even know a 3 year scholarship existed for freshmen so it was kind of discouraging when I saw winner and I thought that was gonna be a 4 year and it turns out its a 3 year
Do you have AP classes with some college credits already? My DD does and I am thinking that can also be why. Her ROO told her their was a possibility of getting that 4th year paid for too, if you do good the 1st yr.

Found out my son was awarded a 3 year Army Rotc scholarship on 2nd Board yesterday. Incredibly proud and thankful. For those that did not yet receive a scholarship keep plugging and follow your dreams with or without a scholarship. Like someone said above, the goal is to get commissioned, doesn't matter how you get there. There are many roads to the same goal. Good luck all.

Don't decline until you have done your research regarding school of assignment. As others indicated some schools give room and board scholarships for all four years for 3 year recipients. Some schools give In State tuition for 3 year scholarship recipients.

Take out loans for the first year or transfer the scholarship to a school that provides these financial incentives.
Some schools also offer Room and Board for Contacted Cadets scholarship or not be sure to speak with someone in financial aid.

Yes. I have 26 hours. 30 being the max to be considered a freshman. However, I still planned on staying in college all 4 years regardless. I just took the classes so I could have a lighter course load in college.

3 4 years to his to his 1st, 2nd and 4th choice....all the early mornings for JROTC and late nights for football and pushing him for AP and dual credits paid off. He's got enough of an academic scholarship, the room and board at the public school should be covered if he chooses that route....I can't begin to express my gratitude!

Keep pushing if you're still waiting. Keep updating. My other child was a 3rd board 3 year winner and she's happy as a clam!

I got a 3 year. Sigh... I needed a 4 year. Why did I get a 3 year instead of a 4 year.

Show up to school in excellent physical shape ready to max the PFT! Also make sure your personal appearance is well within regulations. Lastly get involved with the unit. If you do these things your Cadre will notice and this will put you in the running for a unit level upgrade. ALL of these things are in your control so if you want it bad enough then you can make it happen. Good luck

Some schools do indeed offer room and board and even some unit level scholarships. DS was a 4 yr winner and earned a $5000 scholarship his first semester! Check the AROTC website for a schools lost and what they offer cadets. Be sure the info is up to date. Clarkson's schools offer a very attractive package for their cadets.

I got a 4 year! Yay! :) Congrats to everyone who received them, and for those who don't... there's always the 3rd board.

I'm wondering for some friends... were all the scholarships updated at once? Two of my friends applied and when my status changed (Thursday, I checked at 4) and I texted them and their status had not changed. Is it possible their boards had just not been updated yet?

Congratulations. I believe everyone who was awarded a scholarship had their portal update at same time.

@alpha2716 again congratulations, have you had a chance to talk to the ROO's at the selected schools yet? Would you mind sharing which schools they are? I know it seems daunting right now but there is a way to make it work. Talk to the schools, all of them given to you as options as see what they offer. There is also the option to transfer your scholarship to a more affordable school. Loans are always an option too, remember that when you graduate you will have a job and you will not have to start paying on your first year until you graduate. I hope today you are more excited 3 years is exciting! Especially if you can pick a school that also picks up room and board.
