AROTC 2nd Board notifications

@alpha2716 again congratulations, have you had a chance to talk to the ROO's at the selected schools yet? Would you mind sharing which schools they are? I know it seems daunting right now but there is a way to make it work. Talk to the schools, all of them given to you as options as see what they offer. There is also the option to transfer your scholarship to a more affordable school. Loans are always an option too, remember that when you graduate you will have a job and you will not have to start paying on your first year until you graduate. I hope today you are more excited 3 years is exciting! Especially if you can pick a school that also picks up room and board.
Schools:
Georgia Southern
Mercer University
Georgia College

And I actually won't have a job. I plan on applying for an educational delay for medical school. I am excited btw!

Well lots of things to consider for sure! With an educational delay you still won have loan payments until you are out of school, which is good. Georgia Southern and Georgia college being public, you will have some cost all four years, unless they let you combine academic and ROTC scholarships (some public schools do not). definitely Mercer is the most expensive, but with academic scholarships first year, might not be since they cover room and board, check to see when that starts. All of these questions can be answered with a call to the financial aid advisor at each school, ask for the person who handles ROTC students. Good luck on your decision, great to have options! Also private schools also have additional need based grants that have less restrictive criteria than the federal government, so be sure to ask about what you qualify for. I am sure if you explain you have a 30 day time limit on a decision each school will do their best to assist you.It wasn't too long my daughter was going through these decisions, good luck and again congratulations!

My son won a 3 year last year one Private school had room and board scholarships but not every one got one and they could not say for sure if he would get one before he had to turn in his decision. The Public schools one was a SMC and the other was a regular college experience option. He really liked the staff and PMS at the regular college but also really liked the idea of a military college. The SMC did not offer R&B the regular school will cover Room once he is contracted and they also said they upgrade to 3.5 regularly. He had PELL and merit scholarships that basically left him needing to pay about 4k which can be a lot luckily he got very close to that with graduation presents. He gets 1024 a month for VA dependent education because I am Total & Perm disabled Veteran. He was able to use what he got in that to pay what wasn't covered this semester and he may get some of that back as they are doing a APFT this month, he was told if he passes he would be contracted. Some times I wish he went to the SMC for the structure but I also love that he is getting to have the 'college experience' as well as being active in ROTC. I did not want him to have any debt financing so luckily his 1st choice was the financially possible without debt. It looks like you might be a GA resident sine you picked only Georgia schools there are many state programs for students going to state and private schools in their home state. We didn't find out till after he had selected an out of state school that he had a full ride including books to any Florida State University or college because of my Florida residency at the time I entered the service and my being T&P Veteran status. It will come together if you go through the possibilities apply for other scholarships (DAV and VFW have some good, local, regional, and state contests with great scholarships. Dr Pepper has a 10K scholarship if you can get a hold of the College Blue Book at a library or though a college website it has every scholarship, loan and grants for school.

Was your daughter awarded last year? Mine was 3 year, 3rd board last year and is also so happy with her current situation!

She was 2 years ago. She didn't get on 'til the last board because of a perfect storm of circumstances. We were fortunate enough to have lessons learned to apply to my son's process. She's a MSII at Arizona State University and doing great....Son will have a hard time choosing between Syracuse and WVU, his top 2. We have a lot of examining to do.

The VFW has their National Patriotic Art competition with entries required at your local post by 31 March 2017. Art must be matted but not framed. Awards are given at the Post, District, Department (state) and National level. Most posts also have a local, smaller scholarship program with entries usually due between 15 March and 1 April. Also try the Optimist Club. Rotary Club, Women's Club, American Legion (although their focus tends to be Boy's/Girl's State) and any other local community service organization.
