Hello, I have gotten my acceptence letter the the Naval Academy SLE, but it says that I have until Feb 19 to say if I accept. I also applied to West Point's SLE. Should I wait for a confirmation for West Point's response? Or should I accept the Naval Academt SLE?

Acceptance to one has no bearing on the other as each program is separate. Are you planning to attend both if offered?

Do both or say "Yes!" to the bird in the hand--you can cancel later if you get into USMA SLE and can only do one. That will open a spot for someone who wants NASS. Also, if you end up getting into both during the same week, you can call or write and see if you can get one session changed. You might meet a group of kids who are going from one to the other...

Last summer I was able to attend both in back to back weeks (SLE and then NASS). It was an incredible experience. Like DrMom said, if you end up getting into both in the same week, you should be able to change your session. If you have any interest in going to Navy, I personally wouldn't miss out on NASS.

Similar dilemma as you... but I got accepted to both, but West Point is my SA of choice and I kinda have to go to week 1 because the next week is finals week for my school (I'm not out yet), but that means I am booked for both in the same week which I just can't make.

If I were you, I'd accept NASS and wait (you can always cancel later). Just out of curiosity, when did you send in your SLE app? I sent mine first day and got accepted about a week or two ago so if you sent yours around that time it should be rolling in real soon. If you finished the app at the nth hour, then maybe not. But if you know for sure you're accepted into one summer program, I'd go ahead and accept that on the off chance that you don't get into SLE and then have nothing to go to.

Good Luck!

If you do have both SLE and NASS scheduled for the same week or have other conflicting interests, you can try to email your admissions representative and ask if you can attend another week. This rescheduling was pretty common amongst Midshipmen and Cadet Candidates last summer.

HELLO! you might be able to get finals waived! Think this is impossible? No, it is not. My #1 who is now an USMA grad did exactly that. You just need to consult with your parents and consult with your guidance counselor and get the ball rolling. If you are an awesome student, then your teachers know how you are going to do on exams--you can take exams early or you can get exams waived. DO NOT LET THE SYSTEM LIMIT YOUR THINKING.

Yea no I'm definitely scheduling with certain teachers to take it early, but the issue is that it goes from the last two days of one week into the first two days of the next, in the last two weeks of school. Session three for me would take out the last two days of school for me which are my finals, so I can schedule those for the week before. Session one is a whole week before that so that should be fine. But I can't use session 2 because it cuts out the first two final days and it'd be hard to make those up then next week and it would be hard to take it a week early. But I'll try. Thanks!

Arty, wait and see where you get accepted , try to change the weeks to meet your schedule but talk to your guidance counselor. Again, they may very well waive your final exam requirement--as in say, "Do not worry, you do not have to take a final in this class" perhaps for each of your classes. If you are an 'A' student both quarters, do you really need a final to ensure that you get that 'A'? No, you do not. So, again, I recommend talking to your teachers...also, talk to your parents because someone has to get you there either in a car or pay for the plane ticket.

Is there a way to check portal for naval academy? Can check status for AF Academy, but do not see way to do so for Naval?

How long until USMA starts giving acceptance/denial to SLE apps?

It all depends on when you applied. They have rolling admissions. People are getting responses around now (I got mine about 2 weeks ago but I applied on the day it opened). If you applied later, it'll come out later. If you applied earlier, it'll come out soon.

Listen to all the advice here! I just want to add that I got denied for USMA SLE in April 2016. I applied for NASS in the last hour the application was open and luckily got in. NASS was a great experience. Yet a few days ago I accepted my appointment to the class of 2021 at USMA. Not getting selected for SLE discouraged me for a while but it obviously wasn't too big of a deal. Don't worry too much no matter what happens! You're gonna have a great experience either way. Make sure you get the most of it.

Son received acceptance to both NASS and USMA SLE --going to NASS first session and USMA advised they would assign SLE once all pw is returned- need to get physical --- son put down 2nd session--- hopefull both work out

My DS was notified last Tuesday that he will be attending SLE this summer. I see on the schedule that they take the CFA while there. Will that count as the official CFA score for admission to USMA?

Yea I'm fairly certain you're allowed to use that score if you want because it'll be administered by a military officer which makes it a valid score. Not 100% certain though.

Yes they take their official CFA at SLE. However, if they are not happy with their scores, there is a way to retake the CFA back home.

I really recommend training now for that CFA you take while you are at SLE. The reason being that it'll probably be the easiest one you take since you'll likely end up getting more time than normal between events due to the volume of people. Practice waking up early so you won't feel so tired especially if you're from California. Practice technique on the basketball throw and do 200 push-ups to train no matter how long it takes you or how many sets you have to do them in. I also recommend training hard for the CFA you take there because the competition factor being surrounded by so many other candidates will probably make you push yourself harder!
