NROTC Board Review Schedule

We are in the same position... Army family with a son whose first choice is Navy. (I am also an Air Force Brat!) He will be very content with the Army though if that's his scholarship option. The difficult decision for him will be if he doesn't get ANY scholarship... will he join Navy or Army ROTC? Navy is what he wants to do, but statistically (based only on talking to the ROTC units at ERAU) it seems *a lot* more 2-3 year scholarships come out of the Army. For him, the school has priority, and the school is EXPENSIVE and our family has a no student loan policy. We can get him through 2 years at this school, but then he will need to be on scholarship. So... does he go with his first choice (NAVY)... or go with the better scholarship bet (ARMY)? Time will tell... but hopefully he will just be awarded a scholarship from one or both services and make the decision a lot easier!

Good luck SANE mama. This is a hard time of year. So much waiting. It is good that they have senior year classes and sports to keep their minds occupied. I hope you get good news and great choices soon. My guy still doesn't know about the Navy ROTC being a no go. He can check his own portal or wait for the mail but as an International Relations major he knew it was a long shot w the Navy.

Does anyone know how many applicants are left in the pool for NROTC scholarships and how many more scholarships offers will be extended?

Yes. The answers are too many and not enough, in that order.

They awarded 150 scholarships on the last board, plus one Nurse scholarship. For the boards that I've seen, they've been awarding between 90 and 150. There are three boards left.

Does anyone have insight into the Navy ROTC LREC scholarship selection timeline?

Is there a quota for each board? All selected at one of the last boards? Or worse all selected in the first few boards?

I've been told that the portal was again updated today; still no word for me. Any idea how many boards are left as of now? Thanks!

Do they reject applicants during boards or do they just select awardees and leave everyone in the pool till the very end? Has anyone been rejected yet?

They are spread throughout the selection season. I've seen students get them awarded on the first board just as often as on the last board.

There are three scheduled boards left. The next one starts 20 MAR.

Are there still applications that the Selection Board has not reviewed? Or are they in the process of trying to slot the top candidates with the openings at schools right now?

I believe that all final applications from about the country had to be postmarked from the various Navy recruiting districts NLT 10 MAR, so yes, there are still some applications that have yet to be boarded for the first time.

Scholarship selection has NOTHING to do with where an applicant is looking to go to school. They don't even look at it. The best applicants get scholarships. Placement is handled later.

NavyNOLA, Do you happen to know if all the notifications have gone out for the last board? Was yesterday the only day for portal changes or are they trickling out all week?

Yesterday was the day. Board results are always published on a single day.

Yes, yesterday was the day I can attest to that I received a scholarship yesterday. By the way just so everyone knows if you don't get the scholarship your first time you have one more chance your freshmen year in college, I didnt get mine until I tried again in college. I would say doing college program a year and getting your NROTC advisor to do your interview will make your chances much better.

NavyNOLA, my DS completed his application in October and, as far as I know, the portal has always reflected "The NSTC Selection/Placement Office has received your application. All required items have been processed." Since there has never been a change in status on the portal, does this mean his application has not been reviewed by a Board? Would this be unusual for an application that has been pending for so many months? Thank you in advance for your insight.
