TWE's?

Well, the day we were hoping wouldn't come, has come. DS received an email today. Not going to happen this year. I haven't spoken to him, he just texted a screenshot of it. Good luck to everyone else!
I'm so sorry to hear that :( Best of luck to him next year (if he is reapplying)! I'm wondering if this means they're starting to look at the NWL?

Actually, please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe last year's candidates received a status update on their portal that said: Rejected by USNA.

There were more than a few disgruntled parents over that one.

AROTC-Dad. I like that a lot. I have thought about during the day--the kids go through all sorts of machinations to complete a service academy application and secure a nomination Because truly, if you listen to admissions at USNA, they want you to do 10 things...apply to USNA, 2 senators, 1 congressman, NROTC which means 5 colleges...not mention the myriad steps in the USNA application--letters of rec, three essays, CFA, DoDMERB. Not judging but it seems that such intense effort might receive something more formal than an email--like a TWE. I guess "No" is "No" no matter the form. Just call me Old School.

The 3 civilian schools my DS applied to sent him offers of admission via snail mail. They would probably send letters of declination the same way. There's something to be said about getting that letter in their hand (say the words of Sid from Toy Story..."it came, it finally came" and the anticipation of what could be inside. Does it bring the big one, joy, pride, despair or determination? Yes, for all the stuff our DSs/DDs had to go through, the SAs should send the letter in the snail mail first before e-mailing or posting in the portal. Best of luck to all!

After it was all said and done, between the MOC, USMA, USNA, AROTC, NROTC applications, and the common app for the colleges, my DD compiled 19 essays. Some were variants of others, but most were written from scratch.

Each of our kids have stories such as this, how they busted hump.

All of our kids are amazing young people, and no matter where they end up they will be successful.

Good Luck to all.

Ivy League Columbia just mass emailed a few hundred grad school candidates that they were accepted last week only to issue a retraction, rejection, and lame apology. Could be worse than a bluntly worded portal update.

Sorry to hear, navybrat. Know exactly what you are going through... Eldest DS was rejected twice and settled in at Plan B school and is doing well. Youngest DS, however, was wait-listed last year and just received an appointment as a NROTC college-reapplicant.

This is the tough part of parenting that never gets mentioned in the brochures. If you have any questions, want to vent, or want to strategize for next year, let me know.

Don't give up the ship!

For the class of 2019 I received a formal letter, but last year I just got an e-mail with portal change.

Sorry to hear that navybrat, your DS will be a success story no matter where he ends up and some of us here are also waiting for our faith to be determined by USNA. Tell your boy that it is not the end of the world, there are so many different ways he can serve his country and ways of becoming a naval officer. I personally have different levels of backup if I get a rejection letter, My first option will be to follow up on my seal contract and enlist and go straight to BUDS( Becoming a seal and fighting alongside America's finest warriors has always been my dream) , or attend college while enrolled in NROTC and reapply or just stay with NROTC. Although reapplying to USNA does not in anyway guarantee admission, but I believe it is worth a try, so never quit on anything and as they say you fail when you quit trying.
