What do girls think of Cadets

And until you put on the uniform of this nations warriors, its best if you keep some of your comments to yourself.

And probably after as well, if he wears the uniform.

Bull, it's nice to see you back. How's Lawton? If you're still there.

It's not, but as a college teacher (and parent of two kids who were awarded NROTC and AFROTC scholarships - one going to MIT), my advice is practice as you play. If you get in the habit of using solid vocab and proper grammar in casual postings, it'll come easier to you in school and at work. You're right, this isn't an essay contest, but would that mean over beers or watching a game with workmates that you'd slip into bad grammar and slang?

That is true. On this forum though, grammatical and spelling errors are often ignored, unless someone wants to slip the knife in a little deeper. It's amazing how the sharks circle sometimes. Reread this thread and you'll see this kid meant no harm, he's just inexperienced and has a lot to learn. He certainly did not respond in anger to any of the grown-ups that hammered at him, but became defensive at times. I hope he isn't deterred from using the forum. I'm not holier than thou, and I've been guilty too in the past. In this case though, I'm gonna help the youngster out.

@Vitalzt, I was away a day and now your trident is gone...

I happened to cruise around in the rest of the social media world the other day. Just a suggestion: do not use the same avatar in an anonymous forum and in the clear social world!

Thank you Maplerock. I was checking this thread this evening and became a bit concerned with the tones. While helping kids - and let's face it, poster is a kid - to see a different perspective or point of view is necessary, it's the manner in which we do it. I honestly don't think he meant offense to anyone. I will admit I giggled at the beginning but it just took an ugly turn. I'm looking at the poster as a high school senior who is under intense stress and now scrutiny in a forum of support. We don't always have to get along but it's the way we use our words that matters. Take it or leave it. It's my thoughts and feelings. I'm a grown woman who works in an urban environment with children acquiring English language skills in a new country. Sometimes, it's not what you say but how you say it.

When serious advice about respecting women is met with churlish rejoinders, the tone is going to change real quick...

The OP may be a kid, and I would agree that responses shouldn't go too far toward being abusive, but clearly OP has a lot to learn and if he is smart will read the responses, trying not to take the messages personally, and reevaluate his thinking and comments. Better he learns now on a forum than when he gets in the real world, whether military or civilian.

Not in Lawton anymore, PCS'ed from there in mid-2015. Now currently visiting other parts of the world for a year. I'll be in and out on here til I'm back stateside

This is true, but the OP that asked the original question only responded once early on, I think most of the comments you might be referring to started with someone that jumped on board later.
