USAFA Class of 2021 Appointments

Twenty-three people were appointed who are forum members last week. Perhaps admissions is trying to finish up as we head into mid-March. That would be good for you all. Let us all keep praying for good news for all those young men and women who feel called to serve and lead.

Could next week be a week of big waves of appointments?
I hope so. Was just talking about that with my DS and my wife. We are all getting a little uneasy being we haven't heard from MOC yet. Hoping and praying it's this week.
Same here. Wish something would come out. It's been a long wait. Hoping this is the week.

To all those still waiting to hear news- remember not all MOC's call to notify of appointments.

When my son was offered an appointment to USMA, he never received a call. Instead, one day he noticed that on his portal where 'candidate' was it said 'Offered Appointment'. Then two days late he received a very nice BFE in the mail. FYI - He had a congressional nomination for USMA.
For USAFA, he had both a congressional & Senatorial nomination. Last week, he was blessed to receive a personal phone call from our senator informing him of the appointment offer to USAFA.
Since our congresswoman didn't make a phone call for the USMA appointment, I don't think she would have made one for the USAFA appointment either. Luckily, he was appointed off the senators slate hence he made the call to DS.
Like most of those that received calls of appointments last week , my son was told by the senator that the portal should update on the 15th reflecting his appointment. That means if your MOC doesn't make calls informing of appointments, the first you hear of it could be when the portal updates on the 15th. Hang in there!!

Nice to have choices. Congrats. So, which will your DS decide to attend? The next 30 days or so will be a lot of thinking.

Im kind of confused though. So isn't the acceptance deadline April 15th? If so, then there won't be any appointments past that right? All will be made by the 15th?

I think that is the deadline for those initial appointments, ones off slates. I think those pulled late in the game like the NWL may have extra time. I believe some offers may be as late as May. Just my guess.

Oh okay, although based off of past posts, I read that some slates still have not been decided apparently.

Yeah, I think that may be the case. I am pretty sure there have been no appointments from our state. I know of a few for the USMA, but none for the USAFA. I know the forum only makes up a handful of representation of appointments, but I keep my ear to the ground.

Yes, he has some tough decisions to make in the next week or so.

We, like many on here, have a strong military background across all services going back several generations. Of his living relatives: his maternal grandmother is a retired Army Colonel, a great grandfather was in the Marine Corps and a great uncle, who he really respects & admires, is a retired Air Force General & pilot. Add to that, his devoted dad is a USMA grad.

We visited West Point as a family 5 years ago & DS went to USAFA SS last summer (he loved the experience). He really likes both & can see himself at either, though he says USAFA reminds him most of home. Since around age 9, he knew he wanted to become a military officer by going to a SA and, at that time, was fixated on becoming a fighter pilot-so that meant either USAFA or USNA. Given that DH is a West Point and he was raised on 'Go Army, beat Navy!', he chose USAFA:biglaugh:
. While he still would like to become a pilot, with maturity he has become more open to seeing what others jobs might interest & best suit him. That then opened the door to considering USMA as well.

In addition, he has been offered a 4 year AROTC scholarship so he has that option available to him, though for him that as always been his plan B.

We are so proud of him and will be his biggest cheerleaders & supports whichever he chooses. He keeps saying it is such a tough decision, to which we jokingly reply, "Welcome to adulthood- land of difficult decision!"

Well I just read off of another thread that most of the appointments should be made by this week, so hopefully that is the case and people get appointed from the NWL, since USAFA is supposed to appoint about 550 people from there. I am in the same boat, so I'll be closely watching my phone and portal all the way to Wednesday!
Here's the link to the thread I was talking about.

It's a great problem to have though. "Hmmm, which SAT will I attend?" :)

I'm an USAF vet and my wife is a USN vet, so DS kind of learned those ropes. He didn't apply to the USMA, but he did to USAFA, USNA, and USCGA. He has a couple of buddies from CAP currently at the USAFA so he's looking forward to joining them if it becomes an option. Hopefully that will be soon. It would be a great birthday gift for me this week :)

Pardon me, but what is the "NWL"? I cannot find this in the acronym list. Is it national wait list?

I was seeking ro someone else from my district this weekend and her DS deadline was Jan 31. She said his portal was just listed as complete, so some slates may not have been looked at yet.
