In the event DS does not get in this year, one nomination he's eligible for but could not apply for is the Pres one. My ex refused to allow us copy of his DD214.

Is there another way to get this document?

TIA...

Just a shot in the dark, and my sympathies - assume ex is retired. Any chance documentation of his service was collected in your divorce paperwork for settlement purposes? Assume he is retired, not just separated, as that is the criteria. Retirees and separatees both get DD-214s.

He's a retired CPO in Navy, and no. Retired post divorce. We explained that it was for DS and not me, but he refused.

It just sucks... a potential nomination taken from him.

So sorry. Tough on your son. Might be worth a call to Admissions to see if any other form of documentation can be used. DS military dependent ID plus ... if you get any portion of the retirement pay from DFAS, can DFAS certify he is retired without supplying a DD-214? Just brainstorming.

And then there is talking to a lawyer...

Oh, just found this - some info is available to general public.

And here's NPRC:

When my father (ex-Marine) passed away, we couldn't find his DD214 and my brother tasked me with tracking it down. I went through The National Personnel Records Center (https://www.archives.gov/st-louis) and was able to get a copy. Go to that website and it explains the process. I hope it works out for your son.

Have your DS ask his dad to send the DD214 directly to the counselor. Just inform the counselor the DD214 will arrive in a separate envelope from a Mr. Ex. Good luck.

Best of luck.
