2021- One month of CPR left!!!

Gosh I hope all this waiting and stress isn't just a repeat of last year. CPR for 4 months just for a TWE on April 15th.
I recall last year there was quite a bit of activity on 4/1. We all joked about April Fool's Day! I remember there were a number of TWE's and a number of candidates moved to WL status. Hang in there all who are still waiting!

So, how will you know if you've been moved to the wait list for USNA? Does the portal status change? Also, would USNA already be taking from the waitlist? I'm just assuming all slates would have to be finalized before they do that.

You are notified of Waitlist as you are of anything else, portal change notification. Then when you check your portal, it will say Waitlist in place of "Complete Pending Review"

There will still be some who get offers of appointment after April 15 (usually from the waitlist). Some lucky kids have multiple offers of appointment in hand and are trying to decide. Others will decide for whatever multitude of reasons that they want to go to "regular college" and turn down their offers. They must decide by May 1. So right around there a few more will get the golden ticket. My DS was fortunate enough to have offers of appointment to USNA, West Point and USAFA. This was not expected and left him kind of reeling. He eliminated West Point because he wanted to study aerospace engineering and they didn't offer that. Then on spring break we took him to Annapolis and Colorado Springs to see these. Both were very impressive. I told him to decide within 2 weeks so some kid out there who was sweating it out could get the slot he wasn't going to pick. We all went out to eat about 10 days later and he reached into a bag and pulled out a USNA hat. I also remember what a big deal it was to go into his west point portal and turn down the offer. They asked "are you sure?" 3 times

So is it safe to assume that the waitlist will only be pulled from when all slates are finalized in order for them to take the top 150? Or am i misunderstanding?

No. The wait list is similar to a civilian school. The top 150 you are referring to is the appointments mandated by congress in the National Pool. The wait list is the list of students after all the appointments have gone out that USNA uses once people decline their appointments if they need to hit the class quota.

Thank you for clarifying. So then is the national pool drawn from once all slates are settled? Just trying to familiarize myself with all of this.

The national pool is used by USNA for a variety of reasons. The top 150 is the part mandated by law. They rank the top 150 by whole candidate score and then offer those top 150 an appointment (charged to a 'Sup' Nom) After that USNA chooses who they want to be part of the class (athletes, diversity objectives, and NAPSTERS potentially if they weren't charged to a MOC). Once they give out all of those appointments they ensure the class quote (1155 for '19 and '20) is fulfilled and then offer to applicants in the national pool to ensure the class is full. There is one exception though; 75% of all appointees from the national pool must have a MOC Nom, thus a MOC Nom will help if on the national pool (But no one is officially charged to a MOC Slate, they are technically charged to the Sup).

Also, once they offer an appointment to a person on the slate and there are no more remaining slots with that MOC, all applicants move to the national waiting list, but if the appointee declines, USNA goes back to the slate and offers another candidate an appointment (using the MOC ranking method: competitive, ranked w/ primary, competitive w/ primary) until they find someone to fill that slot. If that person was appointed off the national pool they may move the candidate's nomination charge to the MOC freeing up a national pool appointment or give the MOC appointment to the next person on the MOC slate under the national pool appointee. It is a puzzle...

So are all the slates complete before they start pulling from national pool in order to know who the top 150 are?

@nap11 -- this is very helpful. I was just wondering about this exact issue, as this happened recently for the senatorial slate that my DD is on. I was unclear whether at this stage (mid-late March) if they would indeed go back to the slate when that particular appointee declined, or if they would just move on, having in all conscience made the appointment. DD survived the tsunami of TWE's next week, so I guess we will see.

Not necessarily, as they could have made the decision and are waiting on a medical qualification from that person. By this time of year they know who they want to appoint and where all the candidates stand in the national game. Even though that person is waiting on a med. waiver, the other candidates go to the National pool and if that candidates medical waiver is denied, they will go back and select a new nominee if that person was not taken off the national pool (then they pick the next higher WCS/Athlete Candidate). The Candidate Guidance Office handles all the slating details. They have everyone's Whole Candidate Score calculated by now and know relatively how high that score will need to be to receive an appointment, slate settled or not.

CPR is a great now! All you can do is wait and see lol

Is there any point at all to calling your nominating MOC to see where you stand? My DS will not do it unless it will help, he isn't as pushy as his mom. lol

Your MOC will have no idea as to where your DS sits in the admission puzzle. Your primary contact at the academy is the only person who knows this information. Some will tell you exactly where you stand and some will be more vague.

Just curious -- does "primary contact at the academy" = Admissions Counselor? or BGO? or BGO Area Coordinator?

Counselor, but they will not be able to tell you your position in the national pool or even confirm you are in the national pool. The BGO Area Coordinator has some access to that information, but they are not suppose to tell you

DD contacted BGO last week and didn't any new info or insight. Still CPR with all three: Rep and both Senator noms. Anxiously awaiting!
