USCGA 2021 Appointments

Hope you are right!

I think what it boils down to is that our sons/daughters are all first rate kiddos but, unfortunately, there just are not enough slots for them all at the CGA. For the past two years I have seen my son put everything he has--and then some--into this first step towards becoming an Officer in the USCG--and my heart will break for him if he does not receive positive news between now and 4/1. That said, he is resilient, resourceful, and determined--come hell or high water--to commission USCG! I am so proud of him and his fellow applicants.

As someone who has been hooked on this forum for 2 years now, I couldn't agree more. I have seen so many posts from those appointed and not appointed, asking to compare standardized test scores and other stats. Almost without fail, they're all good, they're all qualified! At this point in the game, there are very few (if any) who are "not good enough." There are only those who didn't get a slot...simply because of lack of space. I think it's important for all those applicants to remember they are already in an outstanding group who cannot help but succeed, no matter where!

There are 143 people in the Facebook group
As you are a member of the Facebook group. And all appointees and families are encouraged to join. We can assume either both did not join or of the 192 offered only 143 accepted. This is possible as all are not part of the forum, so we do not know about the declines.

Great attitude to have! I was not accepted to CGA many, many years ago and went to VMI instead. After my sophomore year I enlisted in the CG reserve to show my commitment to CG. I applied and was accepted to OCS my senior year and commissioned shortly there after. I have been on active duty ever since. Although CGA is a great school and one avenue to commission, there are other options out there too, if commissioning is his desire.
Good luck to you and him.

Very well put and I couldn't agree more. Another piece to the puzzle is that the CG strives and is, a very diverse organization and I believe demographics also play into who is admitted and who isn't. As someone stated previous, I apologize for not giving 100% credit to the individual, if only test scores/grades were the determining factory it would very easy to make the selections.

Great advise. Some thing we no, but forget some times. Your is a great story of dedication to what you believed in. As I have a DD who is part of the group waiting. I have told there is also OCS. Thank you.

For those who receive an appointment at this late date. Is there a program to visit the Academy?

DD and I are going to the Academy 4/12 - 4/14. There is a Bear's Day on the 14th where DD will be able to shadow a cadet for the day. You can still register for that.

Exactly - I'm a member of the Parents group but DD is not a member of the appointees group. Hard to get an accurate count from that.

same here, My DS is not on the appointees group, but his mother is a member of the parents group.

With 4 days left to 4/1/17. Any one know how many appointments are left to issue?

For parents still waiting to hear :), is the Cadet Candidate Evaluation Board Review Complete box on your DS/DD's Bears' Den Application Checklist still empty?!?

Yep, still empty. I assume we will see it checked on Saturday, as that is when notifications will be posted (according to USCGA's website). Boards meet on Thursday from my understanding so some may see it sooner.

It is. Seems like there are a ton of us in the still waiting boat. Only contact DS has had is with the soccer coach.

Still, no changes. My gut instinct is late Friday afternoon, end of their work day. Gives them a couple of days off before their phones start a-ringing.....simply my opinion based on absolutely nothing.
