I spoke to my BGO last week at an academy day for a congressman. He told me that I have been placed on "deferred status". However he was unclear on what that means as far as my chances of getting in. In my portal I am CPR, however, he told me that being deferred means the review board has looked at my file and decided not to accept or decline me. What the heck.
 
I have no clue what that means to be honest. The only answer I can give you is that you will have a definitive answer by April 15th. That answer could be the Wait List which is more time in limbo. I caution everyone who is on the Wait List to have a Plan B and hope for the best.
 
My BGO also told me that I may not hear back until as late as May 15th. He said that those who have been offered appointments have until May, yes, May 15th to accept or decline their offers. For that reason, a fair number of appointments must go out AFTER April 15, because people will decline them, right?
 
No. That is not the case. USNA offers more appointments than their target number based upon the anticipated yield rate. The yield rate for USNA is fairly high and usually their entering class ends up slightly higher than their target class size by a handful or two. If USNA gets lower than their anticipated yield rate they will pull people off the wait list. Those on the wait list will know this. They are notified. They could be on this wait list well into May, but USNA makes it clear to continue with Plan B if on the wait list. If this years class follows the last few years pattern, very few will come off the wait list.

Agree with Hoops. In our experience last year, DS was waitlisted on 1 April and did not receive the final turndown until early June. He went ahead with Plan B school and accepted his NROTC scholarship shortly after being advised of his WL status.
 
DS was wait listed April 14, 2020, moved on to plan B, then got his appointment on April 28. April is a tough month for those who (still) wait. Hang in there, we are all pulling for you!
 
Deferred status as well here in NJ. Make sure you get your plan B in order because USNA has the best rates for candidates to accept their appointments. However, I'm sure there will be some surprises after April 15th! Good luck to you!
