NROTC Board Review Schedule

Minority Serving Institution (MSI) Scholarship Program
Alternative Scholarship Reservation (similar to an ISR but from a different source)

ASR is also the three letters designator a submarine rescue ship, but I doubt that is what @NavyNOLA was referring to.

oops way late

I'm incredibly nervous!! Following last year's schedule, I was hoping this week some decisions would come out! I keep getting excited because the USNA boards are blowing up and I find myself wandering onto them before I realize they're not NROTC. Good luck to everyone else still waiting on a decision!

Army ROTC released their 3rd and final board today so there has been excitement there as well. Unfortunately, DS did not get an AROTC scholarship offer. We have accepted students weekend starting Friday and was really hoping we would hear from NROTC this week too!

What is the Alternative Scholarship Reservation? What source, I mean? I get what the ISR is, but what is the "alternative source" for this type of scholarship?

Pratt, and I now wish we had put down Physics or Math in Trinity as a second choice but he insisted engineering or bust.
Roger that. My DS was adamant about engineering as well. Best of luck to your son. Cheers.
@Bryantboy83 and @Bluenose89 - any word from Duke ROTC?

@Bryantboy83 and @Bluenose89 -I hope you both got better news than I did today for Pratt. Wishing you the best. Plan B is in place so all is good.

I'm sorry to hear that your DS did not get a scholarship from AROTC — but I completely understand with the accepted students weekends! I can't really commit to a college until I receive a decision from NROTC. It's hard, especially when all of your classmates are starting to commit.

@Lulu3 - Same boat - my DS was turned down by Duke too. Apparently we are not alone: http://www.dukechronicle.com/article/2017/03/duke-accepts-7-3-percent-of-regular-decision-applicants Only 58 of the deferred early decision applicants were now accepted. Everywhere I read there is an record high number of applicants this year with good test scores.

Fortunately my DS was accepted early a for Michigan Engineering, NC State Engineering and Clemson Engineering so depending on the NROTC board decision, he has great options lined up. This is what he decided as a freshman - compete to get into Duke or Michigan and he'll have great choices. That is what he did and where he is, and I am proud!

@inSANEmom and @blinksos - As for the Admitted Students Weekend - we did that a few weekends ago, and it is not as fun knowing you really want to go to a place, but you may not be able to: not knowing yet changes the dynamic. Hang in there.

Good luck to @Bryantboy83.

@Bluenose89 - Thanks. I was a deferred ED too. Waiting to hear from NC State Engineering today. All the schools I applied for are great schools too. Best of luck to your son.

LuLu, Thanks for the good wishes, they must have worked. DS was accepted to Pratt but he has already accepted appointment to USNA. Best of luck with your plan B. I am in awe of the accomplishments of all of these young men and women. They have great futures ahead of them.

@Bryantboy83 Wow, congratulations to your son on both the USNA appointment and the Pratt acceptance!

Thanks Bluenose89. I am very proud of his accomplishments. Best of luck to your son at Michigan. All of these kids have worked so hard to achieve their goals. I am happy for all of them.

That is fantastic news! Congrats.

does anyone know what time the portal is usually updated? I believe I should have been reviewed this time by the board and I haven't heard anything today.

The portal updated today for the board a week ago.

Bad news for us - "We're sorry, you have not been selected." So cheers to you all, and good luck!

Son got his email notifying him of his status today. I had told him to stop portal stalking so he had no idea his scholarship offer was there until the email arrived today.

I didn't receive an email today and my portal remains unchanged still displaying the status, "No decision has been made on your application." I decided to take control of my education and path to the Navy. I'm going to accept one of my college offers and join NROTC as a College Option student or my appointment to the USMMA. Hard work and grit will get me to my goal of becoming a Navy Officer. I wish everyone the best of luck in reaching your goals.
