Army ROTC 3rd Scholarship Board Results

Hi everyone, congratulations to everyone that won scholarships!

I was just awarded a 4 year to three of the schools i put in my school of intent, and at all three of those schools, I was wait listed, or I decided that I do not want to go there. How can I change the school, and does changing schools happen often? (will it be possible for me to switch schools)

Thank you for your help in advance!
My understanding is you need to accept the scholarship at one of the schools and then follow the information in your offer packet which you will receive in the mail on how to transfer the scholarship. Make sure to meet all deadlines. Congratulations!!!

Dckc88, you have been such a help with this process! OS was 6 on my DD's list but we are happy for that. Wondering if there will be anymore offered or if what we see today is it? So complicated. And we are coming from no experience but learning on the way!

@CapeMom what is the nursing status at OS? Is that a school she would like to go to or does she want to transfer? Last year my daughter was given her 1st, 3rd and 4rh choices out of 4 and she chose to go to her 4th. Sometimes those bottom choices can become number 1 really fast! If the OS ROO doesn't reach out soon she should definitely reach out to him!

Your official letter you will soon be receiving in the mail will outline the process of transferring your scholarship to a different school. While it is not a guarantee, many transfer their scholarships to different schools every year. Follow the process spelled out in the letter, you might want to contact the battalion at the school he does want to attend and let them know that he wants to transfer to their program.

Safe to assume all of our portals have been updated? I don't want to jump the gun and email my ROO.

Some advice for non selects. If you don't hear from your school of choice soon contact the ROO and let them know you are coming, and that you plan to enroll in their program. If you have the chance to visit the campus and express your interest in person (admitted student days are a good place to do this) do it. There may be more scholarships available this spring and summer (don't count on these, but be aware). I am going to start lining up my incoming freshmen at Clarkson and will be building an incoming OML. The better I know you, and the more I've interacted with you the better chance you will be near the top. I'm guessing most of the good ROOs (Mohawk) will be doing the same.

We have been in regular contact with the ROO for some time now for the exact reasons you mention. He told us this same thing in a phone call with us last fall. Not all hope is lost! :)

My son followed this same path and was actually given a 4 year before school even started from his #1 school. We had made to out of state visits so they knew he was a lock and had the stats to get a National scholarship but was passed over. Tell your DS to show up raring to go on Day 1 with a fresh haircut, clean shaven and no earrings (my sons freshman class had both of those issues on day 1 believe it or not), then kill it on the 1st APFT. After that, get solid grades and he'll be well on his way. After my son graduated, he was the Gold Bar Recruiter for the school and was the point man for handing out the 3 year campus based scholarships and processing the cadets. Of course every year and every school is different but pretty much every "hard working & dedicated/squared away" cadet was awarded 3 year scholarships after their freshman year.

Is she wait listed on getting into Ohio State or just the Nursing school portion? Either way, I would be on the phone to the ROO and asking for some guidance. Sometimes they can pull some strings, some say they can't. I guess it depends on the school. It's possible that the other schools on her list have full ROTC units by now if they were popular (or smaller) units like Notre Dame, Penn State, Texas A&M for starters....

I think so, I would check one more time and make that call. He already knows either way. Letting him know you are still coming for fall is a good thing. At my daughters school even non-scholarship cadets came in early for ROTC orientation. At her second choice school they had a spring scholarship board for non-scholarship cadets who went through the national process, similar to K2Rider"s son. Depends on the school and the brigade but still options to be had! Good luck!

Here is my advice on transfer request if you are really sure. Print off the offer letter from the portal. Accept one of the offers, sign it, and write on the offer letter a note that you will be requesting a transfer. Scan that, scan the acceptance letter to the school you want to transfer to.
Attach those documents to an email to cadet command. In the email state that you are requesting transfer and why. Not being accepted to the offered school, school of choice is a better fit, school of choice has major you want are good reasons. Bad reasons are my girl/boyfriend goes to school of choice or I didn't apply.
My understanding is it's basically first come, first served. I can't speculate on likelihood. It changes every year. My current senior class had three or four request to transfer to Clarkson. That year everyone got denied, and two days later Cadet Command changed their minds and approved the requests.

Good luck

Looks like my DS didn't get selected for the national scholarship. We have heard about reservist scholarships. Does anybody have any experience with that route? Requirements? Pros and cons?

Thank you for the great info. Do you know how long it takes Cadet Command to make the decision? My DD has an email into the ROO at her first choice school to see if there is even a spot. She is waitlisted at OSU, and would consider going there, but won't know until the beginning of May. With deposits due by then, we don't want to squander this opportunity, but are nervous about the timing of everything.

We were told the same thing, no waitlist decisions until May, April 5th last year she let admissions and the ROO know about her scholarship and on the 6th they miraculously moved up the deadline. She needs to call the school and the ROO today! Good luck!

I received a 3 year scholarship after giving up on believing in myself. Thank you to all of those who replied to my posts and gave me advices during these few months
Congratulations! Can you tell us which schools you were offered?

Just checked the site and found out my daughter is a 3 year winner. Her top 3 were offered Norwich, Westfield State or UMaine. We had gone with plan B because we didn't think we had a chance. She was offered a partial swim scholarship to Franklin Pierce U which was #5 choice so we were planning that route. Going to have to discuss this with her tonight since this is definitely a BIG game changer for us.

Congratulations!!! Transferring the scholarship is always an option, there will be instructions with her offer letter, again congratulations to your daughter and your family!!!

Can you explain the transfer and how it could potentially work? I think I recall reading it somewhere here on the site. Want to make sure I know all of her options so I can be prepared to talk to her about it.
