Army ROTC 3rd Scholarship Board Results

Some advice for non selects. If you don't hear from your school of choice soon contact the ROO and let them know you are coming, and that you plan to enroll in their program. If you have the chance to visit the campus and express your interest in person (admitted student days are a good place to do this) do it. There may be more scholarships available this spring and summer (don't count on these, but be aware). I am going to start lining up my incoming freshmen at Clarkson and will be building an incoming OML. The better I know you, and the more I've interacted with you the better chance you will be near the top. I'm guessing most of the good ROOs (Mohawk) will be doing the same.

This is excellent advice, and I recommend non-selects follow it. Some hosts will receive 3YR scholarships to award to incoming Freshman. I only place cadets on my OML that I have had a bit of contact with, as it is better to award the scholarship to a known entity. Those having a completed scholarship application are preferred as we already have all of their documents.

Will those who were upgraded receive a 2nd letter?
I do not remember anyone mentioning a letter but I do remember last year those who were upgraded mentioning that they confirmed with their schools since those were already be locked down.

If I received a scholarship to a school I do not plan on attending, is there a guarantee that I can change the scholarship to the school I intend to attend? So in my case I'm planning to attend Virginia Tech, but my scholarships are for UMass and RPI.

The official award letter you will be receiving in the mail will have instructions on how to apply for a transfer. There is no guarantee that the transfer will be approved, you should make contact with the Battalion ROO at V Tech soon and let them know of your intent to try and transfer to their school.

I know who you are then, as you are on my list. The transfer instructions will be in your Winner's Packet. What sold you on V Tech over RPI?

The 3rd Board results will be published by the end of this week. Good luck.
Is it possible to download the letter from the portal? If so, can you provide directions? I heard that you can rather than wait for it in the mail. My DD would like to get the ball rolling as she is waitlisted at the school she was offered.

Yes you can download it from the portal, however it may not have been posted yet. It would be under the file upload tab.

Son went from 3 year to 4 year. Very happy! Good luck to all
How were you notified of the change from 3 to 4 year email?
My son also was notified of a change on his board via email. He checked his ROTC acct and had been upgraded from a 3 to a 4 year scholarship. I am beyond happy, but have a few questions. Will any new paperwork come in the mail? Is the active duty service time the same for both scholarships.

Since the scholarship is now a 4 year your son will be able to contract the start of his freshman year. He will need to complete an array of paperwork from 1099 to direct deposit paperwork, the major one will be his 104R which lays out a schedule for the next 4 years, this is something he will need to work on with his advisor when he starts to register for classes and over the summer. Have your son start a conversation with his new battalion, see if he can get the paperwork ahead of time so he can get as much of it done as possible before he heads for school. This will help a lot in getting contracted sooner providing he passes his first APFT when he gets to school. The battalion should be able to get things going but don't be surprised if it takes some time, they are busy with graduation, summer training, making travel arrangements, it's a busy time in the battalion but still make contact with them.

Yes the service obligation is the same, for active it's 4 years AD and 4 years IRR, NG/Reserve is 8 years.

Congratulations to your son on the upgrade.....and your pocket book as well.

DS is also a lucky 4 year recipient so I appreciate the advice on trying to get some paperwork started ahead of time. He will be attending freshman orientation in July so I'm thinking he could start his paperwork then. I know he will be meeting with an advisor then. Is there any need for him to try to also meet with the cadre (he did meet them on a prior visit). Thanks to all on this board for all the great advice during this exciting journey!

I have a question on behalf of DS. He received an e-mail stating his dashboard has been updated. Hoping for the best, when he logged in he discovered a new message saying he should expect a package and new letter to sign. However, he received and accepted a 3 Year AD from the second Board and the Selection Status has not changed. He called his ROO and left a message as well as sent an e-mail. Is this a glitch or will my bank account be very happy?

Most if not all of the Cadre will probably be gone over the summer so there may not be anyone to meet with, he could always see if the HR person is in the office.

Tell your son to get the 104R form from his battalion so he has it when he meets with his advisor.

Seems odd that they would be sending a new letter and the packet if he had not been upgraded, but then again it is the Army and it works in mysterious ways.

I think each school is probably different. For my DD last year, they had a ROTC orientation prior to school starting where all students who had let them know they were coming (scholarship and non-scholarship). When it came time to do the paperwork and get equipment, they put the scholarship cadets in one room and the non-scholarship cadets in the other. The 3 year and 4 year all filled out the paperwork (most of it), in preparation, as most of the 3 year ended up being a 3.5 year (depends on brigade if this is possible). Prior to that orientation week, there was very little contact over the summer with the battalion other than an email about a month before telling them to report early to school. At least for her school, there was no getting ahead on it, however, the orientation list told the students what documentation and information to bring with them to limit the "I will have to call my Mom" interruptions.

Haha, that brings back some memories......"Dad, what's my blood type?", "When did we go to Mexico?", "Can you send me my Social Security Card, I forgot it"....and they actually tried to be prepared.

"Would it be a problem to overnight me an original birth certificate?"

My daughter did not receive a scholarship but she is still entering her school's ROTC program. At what point can she contract with the Army?
