Waitlisted

Does anyone know how the waitlist is prioritized? Who on the waitlist will be asked first as soon as they start making offers from it?

This is an analogy I've posted before, but you have to think of admissions as being one big puzzle. There are around 400 appointments given for a class of 295. So you start out with around 400 pieces (appointments), you lose maybe 1/4 of the pieces (declines, medical DQs, etc.), but you have a box of "extra pieces" (waitlist). Admissions is in charge of making all the pieces fit to make the puzzle work (athletes, musicians, diversity, etc.). When they've used all their direct appointment "pieces", they look to their waitlist "pieces". They have to find who fits into the puzzle. That's why Physicsguru's comment is true...waitlist is a pool. Those that make it off the waitlist, fit somewhere in Admission's puzzle. With having such a small corp, every cadet must fill multiple roles at CGA. Good luck to those waiting!

Order based on who declines as in the Alt pool - Like for like -meaning a female soccer player declines then they would probably be replaced with another female soccer player from wait list. If no direct match, then it is whomever at the academy can state the highest need as an alternative from the wait list or even CGAS pool.
Impossible to predict ahead of time if someone will get off the wait list.
I think of wait list as a delayed decision but also a pat on the back for being competitive enough to make it.
In the old days, admissions used to throw a lot of candidates on the wait list. You can find reference to that in the forum. Now CGA tries to limit the postponed dissapoint by limiting the size.
Went through it last year with DS and he did not make it. We had to wait until early June for the TWE.
Good luck to those still waiting.

400x.75 is 300. No need for wait list.

USCG Master you do not know what the numbers are. The numbers are fluid, always have been, always will be. The ONLY poster that can COMMENT on ACTUAL admission numbers is Objee. My post was an analogy to explain how Admissions uses the waitlist to finalize the class, and the numbers I used are approximations used simply for illustration. Once the class is finalized, the numbers will be released, and Admissions and Admission Partners can then share those publicly.

I got those numbers from your post."So you start out with around 400 pieces (appointments), you lose maybe 1/4 of the pieces (declines, medical DQs, etc.), but you have a box of "extra pieces" (waitlist). "

USCG MASTER has been posting negative comments about admissions for quite a while. I wouldn't bother to respond to his posts, he's a troll at this point.

If you look at all of my posts 90% are positive and supportive. Not all negative.

I suspect news to start by the end of Jan. To all who applied for RA, I hope that you will handle the news well. Appointment, Scholars, Wait List and Rejection. All offer opportunities. Just have too have the clarity to see it. Do not let your emotions drive you the wrong direction. Please have plan B and C ready. To those who get an Appointment get in the best shape for Squab Summer.

You are right, USCG Master, but you became absolutely out of control negative the moment your DD got CGAS waitlist. I'm sure there are many here who got disappointing news too, but they are not "letting their emotions drive them the wrong way." Please remember the positive note above you once posted. These were your words!

I wasn't going to say anything initially, but I just found out some tragic news that I felt compelled to share. I'm not even sure if admissions has been informed or will be informed. One of the direct appointment students that my DD personally knew was just killed in an accident a few days ago. Needless to say, we are shaken up and my DD is devastated. This young man definitely had a special talent that the academy will now be looking to fill from the waitlist. However, would any of us parents be happy when we find out that your waitlisted DD/DS will be replacing a young man whose bright future has just ended tragically and abruptly? CGAS waitlist, waitlist, rejection.... many of you may be disappointed right now, but at least your child is still alive and with you. There are hundreds and thousands of things you can do together in the future as long as he/she is alive! They can go on to civilian schools, etc. and go on to do great things and still have a wonderful full life. There are so many other options out there! There will be plenty of other opportunities for them to make you proud over and over again! I can't even imagine the deep grief of this young man's parents right now. You can hold your child and look into her eyes tonight. His mom will be holding his useless appointment certificate, looking into his empty room instead. He has worked so, so hard for the past four years, and his parents did everything and anything and made tremendous sacrifices to support him. Truly, let's stop being so negative and celebrate the fact you can look forward to your child's future, wherever she happens to be. No matter what, we are all truly more blessed right now than this young man's parents.

I agree. If I have intentionally offended any one, I ask for your forgiveness. I will leave posting to this forum in the future. In order to bring bring some peace. I am truly sorry and my heart hurts for the parents who lost their child. Peace to all.

Thank you for the insight, it was pretty much what I was thinking. Any idea how close to R-Day (or what ever it is called now) they will offer to someone on the waitlist? I thought I saw up to 2 weeks before?
