For Those Awaiting an Appointment/TWE

My words of wisdom for the day. I was at a mom bible study and talking about how stressful this is and complaining that my son took 3 days to say thank you and respond to a scholarship award he received from a local group. Then another mother told me about her 17 year old son. I won't go into details but it involved failing grades, suspensions, substance abuse, theft and criminal charges. Really made me calm down, put things in perspective and appreciate what I have. Regardless of whether our kids get an appointment it won't change the fact that as parents we have been truly blessed.

I know several teenage boys that for varying reasons do not have all the choices of schools that my son has...I am grateful that he has received the offers he has and beyond a doubt, I know he will be where he is meant to be ...I know that many families use the term "wild ride"...I, having already been through this with my current C1C, really see it as a journey. Enjoy your journey because you never come back to the place you began :)

I have read that they only work with the DQ waivers of applicants they are considering, I have also read they have accepted the applicants that have thier appointments.
DD received her appointment from Senator Rob Portman and Congressman Steve Chabot. She was medical DQ but they have processed/accepted her waiver.

Her status says candidate, no letters no emails as of today.

She has two friends that have been accepted both athlete's and one person she knows received rejection letter last Monday.

TexasSoccerMom, that is a beautiful story! Every day my mom continues to tell me, "You will get an appointment", but has said she will always support me in anything I decide to do. I wish I had as much confidence as she does! If not for our awesome parents, we would have never been able to reach these heights! Thank you to all of the awesome parents on this forum.

Leb17girl, I guess it's safe to say then that we should be grateful to still be candidates! That means we're still in the game.

Still waiting here too. I don't understand. I had such a variety of experience and leadership and still no answer. If the bad news comes, I am going to enlist as an E-3(because of my near Billy Mitchell award in CAP) and do either the LEAD program or the Form 1786 in order to reapply as an airman. Is there still spots for the prep school? I would be just as happy if I get in through that as I'm still 17 and would appreciate the extra training...

I've seen on another thread some LEAD applicants getting Prep School appointments. But those do tend to go out later in the process. My plan B is similar to yours also. I'm working with Air Force Reserves and reapplying next year if I don't get an appointment. The hardest part right now is picking my job! Not too sure as to what I want to do. Keep your chin up though. It's not over until you get that TWE, and even then it's not over ;)

Thank you for the thread! Waiting with my DS, but plan B is already in place. His twin sister is making her final decision but wondering just how far apart they will be. Proud of both of them regardless of where they go. Proud to have had the opportunity to participate in this forum and know so many fantastic young adults are out there wanting to serve!

As a mom of a DD still awaiting word from USAFA and USMA (denied by USNA) I have to remind not only my daughter but myself how blessed she is to have come this far. All of these kids are the brightest our country has! They are the elite of the elite and to even be given the opportunity to be qualified is an honor. And even if the Academies won't be the door to their military careers, if it is their hearts desires to serve, they will! As someone once told my DD, it will just have to be an "over the river and thru the woods" approach to get to be an officer.
But it's still not over yet! And even if it is...
If the door didn't open, then it wasn't your door. Keep trying the other ones until one does open!

I have been checking this forum incessantly for weeks in hopes of trying to figure out this whole process. I finished my application and medical profile in November and have gotten ZERO updates on either portal since November (DODMERB or USAFA Portal) with the exception of my AFA portal showing my congressional nomination.

My application is currently "complete but medically disqualified" and my waiver is "pending review." My liaison officer and counselor have been unresponsive whenever I try to get an update on my application, and now it seems like my window is closing. I don't come from a military family, so any advice regarding how I should proceed would be greatly appreciated!

Good morning. I'm up for my am check of the portal for USAFA. Each day it says the same thing. Candidate and completed. I am fortunate to have received a Congressional nomination so I just keep hoping that status is going to change. Is it possible that I am still in the running for an appointment or by this time have they decided to pass on me and just haven't sent the letter. I've made my second choice and have everything in place but it's just hard to get excited about that decision when you just keep hoping.

Thank you for this thread. It keeps me from getting super excited every time I see the appointment thread at the top of the page thinking a "wave" has started. :)

The academy may issue a limited number of waivers but until you receive a decision, there is still hope. April and May is the schedule when the academy sends out most of the TWEs, PS and FF offers. We are all hoping they continue sending appointment offers. My DS is also waiting (Candidate/Complete) and his back up school is GTG. I would say solidify your Plan B and good luck on both.

Just for those of us who are still awaiting an appointment or a TWE, that way we can take the talk away from the Appointment Page. And also for anyone who wants to share some words of wisdom and encouragement with us all!
This wait is almost unbearable. New to this forum but it helps to know others are still waiting.

Still waiting...DD has 3 noms, none primary but qualified and candidate on portal. No activity since November when application was complete. Keeping fingers crossed and plan b and c are in place.

Do you mind me asking what plans B and C are?

Plan B is self prep school if not offered falcon scholarship or usafaps and plan C is AFROTC at University of choice, offered type 2 for 4 years.

My DD was Med DQ she sent her waiver in and they asked for doctor records bless the Dr office they turned all the paperwork over to us in 24 hrs. She emailed called every other day no one returned emails or calls four months after the DQ she got a letter saying her waiver was approved. So don't put much into not hearing anything back from your calls and emails.
