Is a wave coming

RC called. It's a 99.999% chance. The appointed prepsters no longer compete against all the kids from their state. All they need is one nomination the next round and the spot is theirs...if I am correct. Assuming they don't fail their courses or do something stupid at prep. I'm still trying to weed through all the information, but as far as we understand it, this is the Willy Wonka golden ticket of West Point. The RC flat out told her that she was more than qualified for WP but that there weren't enough spots open for our district and we are a highly competitive district. That she wasn't #1 on the slot but that WP wanted her. What I'm not sure of is if the Academy has "reserved" spots for the same amount of AOG recepients that they send each year. So day they appointed 100 athlete and/or scholar prepsters for the 2017-2018 academic year, does WP reserve 100 appointments at WP for the Fall 2018 entry ( is that why the acceptance is 99.99%)?. Again...just still learning all I can...
DD was told exact same thing from RC. Basically keep grades up, stay out of trouble and see you next summer! She too was very competitive but did not win her slate. She specifically asked what happens if she isn't #1 next year and was told just get a nomination, doesn't matter where you fall on slate. It is the golden ticket!!! Celebrate :)

My DD's wait is finally over. Phone call yesterday was told 99.9% no chance of direct appointment for class of 2021 but.....Phone call this morning....AOG Scholarship! MMI 2017-2018. USMA Class of 2022 Door is Open!!!
Who called you? The RC? Does an AOG scholarship ensure appointment next year?
DD also received AOG and basically was told appointment for Class of 2021 was "hers to lose".
Teragram ~ congrats to your DD as well! Did you find out about AOG this week?
Thank you! No she was offered AOG back in March. She was sitting in #2 on slate at the time and #1 hadn't accepted nor declined so they offered AOG. Now #1 has declined, but not sure if slot was taken from district this late in game or whether she will now receive direct appointment. Either way, she is thrilled and grateful for the opportunity of prep if that is the way it goes.

That's what I thought [emoji3] RC told her doesn't matter where she is on slate because the slot is hers and hers alone. Guess our DD's will be Class of 2022 together!
Looks like they will be! I am so happy your DD got the good news this morning, I was hoping she would :) It appears we aren't getting off this roller coaster just yet lol

Congrats to both of your girls. I love that your girls are so thrilled with this great opportunity! My DD would be thrilled if she was the offered AOG civil prep opportunity. We live within a few hours of MMI and I've only heard great things about that school.

Have her call her RC and mention she would be interested in civil prep if it's an option and not too late. Can't hurt to try!

Thanks! That is a good idea. I'll have her do that tonight.
She emailed him a week and a half a go about where she stood. He just said that she was waiting for a spot to come open (enough candidates to decline, I guess) and that she wouldn't likely know for 2-4 weeks.

I agree she should show interest to RC. Based on what you said about your location to MMI, your DD probably has same RC as mine and he is so easy to work with!

Did you show interest first, or did the RC come to you with the idea of civil prep? My DD didn't start the application process until Oct. 25th, so I believe that has hurt her quite a bit. She wasn't 3Q'd until mid January.

Now #1 has declined, but not sure if slot was taken from district this late in game or whether she will now receive direct appointment.
Slot can not be taken away from the district. Only after all qualified candidates in the district have declined the appointment will the space be filled from the NWL. In that case the district will have an extra slate the following year.

That must not be completely accurate because she is 3Q'd, #1 declined and there still seems to be some question whether direct appointment will be made.

DD was also not 3Q'd until early January and she did not show interest first, her RC asked her about it and she said she would be interested. However, putting the bug in his ear will not hurt your DD one bit.

My DD had emailed her RC on March 27th and asked him if she didn't receive a direct appointment if prep school would be an option for her. So she took the initiative. And 3 weeks later here we are! So tell your DD to jump on that right away!! Good luck!

It is correct, it's the law. It would be a political nightmare for a MOC if qualified candidates were passed over without filling a vacant slot. Offered candidates have at least until May 1st to accept/decline. It's only mid-April - far too early to scramble to fill openings.

Confusion occurs because the process of charging appointments to MOCS gets complicated - but no qualified and nominated candidate in a district gets passed over until a slate winner accepts the appointment.

My DS just got a text from his RC. He said to keep checking his portal because a change is coming.

CLUElessDAD2021
We are keeping you in our prayers and keeping fingers crossed. Our DS has heard from this RC that he should know by Apri 15th as we are waiting for a waiver on a fractured foot that happened last August 2016.

My understanding is that if a candidate from a MOC slate is offered an appointment and declines, then WP is not obliged to go to back to the slate and offer another appointment from that MOCs slate. WP has filled the obligation to offer an appointment to a candidate on the slate.
