Wait list question

No, my DS received WL letter today. No call or email prior. He was very disappointed but at this stage was not surprised. Now the waiting cycle starts all over. He does have a good plan B though and still has hope.
Congratulations for landing on the wait list. My DS was waitlisted 4 years ago. He received notice on May 15th that he was being offered an appointment to USNA. One of the happiest days in his life!

Thanks for the encouragement! DS still has head up.

This probably goes without saying, but it is CRITICAL for all WL'ed candidates to move forward with their alternate Plan A. Put down the deposit, fill out the forms -- whatever you need to do. Do not burn your other bridge while waiting to hear whether you are selected from the WL.

USNA has never taken everyone from the WL. Some years, due to lower than expected yield, up to several dozen may receive appointments. The others still received turndowns. And, some years, not one person is taken off the wait list.

Some people may not receive a final decision until well into June -- USNA tries to notify everyone in May but I have seeen years where the process, for some candidates, has lagged. This might be due to late clearing medical waivers or other reasons.

I don't want to be the sound of doom and gloom, but you are best off to assume you will be headed to another school and then, if an appointment comes through, so much the better.

I recall meeting someone on I-Day in 2012 (class of 2016), whose DS got his appointment on June 26! I-Day was June 28, so they had one day to prepare and make arrangements!!!

That's Why DS has pledged to keep himself in the best shape of his life all summer long! you just never know.

Usna1985 is correct. DS placed on waitlist last year and did not find out final determination (not appointed) until second week of June. Thankfully, Plan B already in place and he restarted reapplication process.

How did he know he was waitlisted. Was he turned down on the portal?

your status changes to waitlist on the portal

Our DS was notified on his portal about 12noon yesterday that he was wait listed. He received an email saying "portal change".
Praying he receives the same news your DS did.
