We don't fully understand the meaning of a falcon scholarship. I have to admit I am so disappointed she did not get an appointment, I am almost ready to cry but don't want to do that in front of her.

No need for tears unless they are happy tears.

Capt MJ said it correctly, a Falcon Scholarship is her "Golden Ticket" in. Capt MJ explained it well in his post.

In our home we call a Falcon Scholarship, the 5 year plan instead of the 4 year plan. Yes, it would have been nice if she had gotten a "Direct Entry" and could graduate from USAFA in 4 years. However, with a Falcon Scholarship she is practically guaranteed a "Direct Entry" next year. As long as she is 3Q and stays out of trouble, she will graduate from USAFA in 5 years.

If my DS has gotten a Falcon Scholarship last year, I would have been elated. Instead, my DS got a late TWE (April 31) with a recommendation for his ALO to attend NWP (Northwestern Prep School in California) as a free agent. We took the ALO's advice and my DS received a Principle Nomination this year. However, my DS is still waiting for his appointment.

NWP is a great Prep School. There are several on this forum that have attended or have a DD/DS that attended NWP. If you want any additional information my DS and I would be happy to talk to you in a private conversation. Sorry they did not give you any time to research.

pa_ptmom can give you information on MMI. She has a DS there right now.
1mom can give you information on RMA. She has a DS there right now.
I know someone else on this forum has experience with Greystone at Schreiner University also.

Yes, Thank you to everyone. We have been researching it all day and have talked to 2 prep schools. We are going to be rushing to go visit 2 this week as she has the deadline of the 21st to accept and say which school as the scholarship will be withdrawn on the 21st. We now understand it is a direct line to the academy for next year. She will not have to do all the paperwork but still needs a nomination. We are now excited for her and she is thrilled to be going to prep before the academy. We just weren't sure what it was and if she should give up her $180,000 NROTC scholarship for the Falcon one.

Does anyone know if appointments are still going out today with a deadline of tonight or have pretty much all appointments been sent for the week? I know that there will be more to come as some will decline or just not respond. Good luck to all! It has been one heck of a ride and still waitingo_O

lionking1964 posted this yesterday.
CA District 39 here.
Just got informed by AFA Admissions Officer today that my DS would hear in or out by Apr 21.
I don't know if that is good or bad.

Today 4/15 is the deadline to accept appointments. I want to know what's going on... A lot of districts haven't even heard back yet. A lot of seniors don't know where they will be attending college.

For some the deadline to accept the appointment is the 18th. I thought it was the 15th all along but when I received mine I had a deadline set to April 18th.

So would you think that the rest of the appointments would be going out in the next couple of days? I would imagine they wouldn't wait till the absolute last day...

I would think that they would be giving some out next week, but don't quote me on that.

KrisKatz, thanks for taking the time to compile this. Would anyone know approx how many are typically appointed from California each year?

Anyone seen anything for Delaware? DS is still waiting. Has Type 7 ROTC but this delay makes getting him to focus on other college choices difficult.
