NROTC Board Review Schedule

Question on changing schools: Is it better to notify the board now that I didn't get into my 2nd choice school (in-state, so cheaper)? Or, should I just wait to see if I get the award and request transfer if necessary? My 1st choice remains the same (out-of-state, so more expensive).

While it may seem counter intuitive, the finances side of things isn't relevant. Public vs private has a bearing when caps are set for each unit, but isn't looked at when a student asks for a change of placement. Costs are controlled via unit caps, not by approving or denying placement change requests from public to private. The reality is that most students will not have an issue getting their change of placement approved, given that caps are relatively high compared to the annual number of scholarships awarded in recent years.

This is agonizing. I check my son's application status several times a day and it still says no decision. I guess that's better than the alternative. :)

I feel your pain. I too check our son's application status through out the day. Our son received an email from his RC yesterday stating that he would know by April 15th, if his medical waiver was granted. We did hear from USNA that he was WL and that came as a complete surprise yesterday. When reviewing the forums, I noticed a number of post with a wave of TWE's, so immediately checked our sons portal and saw the WL. Keep the FAITH and pray that the good Lord shows our sons His will for their lives soon.

Per the dates on the first page of this thread - it is likely that some might find out about receiving the NROTC scholarship AFTER the May 1st decision deadline. Is this true? If so, is there instruction on how to switch the school the scholarship applies to?
I am worried that I might: a) receive the scholarship to the one school I was rejected from, or b) receive it to either of the schools I did not choose after committing to a school

Those were last year dates. If you read the whole thread, a knowledgeable member, NavyNOLA, has said that both of the remaining non notified board results (one met and not announce, one still to meet and be announced) will come before the May 1 deadline.
In addition, if you read the threads NROTC is lightning quick on authorizing transfers. So that would work in your favor about schools not accepted to.

Does anyone know if NROTC sends notifications out if you don't receive a scholarship? My application still says: Selection Status - No decision has been made on your application. I've been accepted to all my NROTC schools for Mechanical Engineering and they're asking for deposits to hold my place by May 1st. Is it recommend to send in the deposits to all school to hold spots in case I'm selected for a NROTC scholarship?

With just the April boards remaining is they way you find out you didn't receive a scholarship to look at your application status on May 1st or 2nd.

You will receive notification on the scholarship before May 1st. There is no need to put down deposits at schools until then. They can keep asking for deposits, but the reality is that if you were admitted, you have until May 1st to put down a deposit. Putting down deposits at five schools is a waste of money.

Agreed with NavyNola. I wouldn't put the deposits at all 5 schools. Pick the school you want to go to and and then, if you receive the scholarship at another school, look to transfer the scholarship to your no. 1 school.

Has anyone heard back from the recent board review? My DS' portal is still "No decision...". I wonder if his application is slated to be reviewed with the MSISR applications? He got an email saying his application indicated his interest in this scholarship. He is not pursuing this avenue but maybe he selected a check box on his app before it was submitted? Not sure how this is indicated on the application. How are the MSISR scholarships awarded?

If the last board is meeting this week, shouldn't we have heard the results of the previous board by now?

I really hope we find out soon!! My application still says "no decision". I, also, checked initial interest for MSISR and was contacted about it, though never continued in its pursuit. The wait seems interminable and I am growing increasingly impatient. Hoping it is for the best...It really is SO agonizing--at least it confirms the desire to be in the Navy!! I am praying for everyone still waiting, and I know whatever happens will be for a reason

My application still says "no decision" as well. On the first post of this thread there's an attachment that has review dates and notifications from 2015. From what I've seen the reviews and announcements this year are in line with 2015. If this holds true we should receive the announcement from the first April board around the 22nd of this month and the final April board that is probably in session now by May 6th.

Some discussions were on scholarship transfer possibilities so if the last board results go past May 1st it seems possible to transfer a scholarship to the school you've accepted. I'm no longer checking so much now and have started doing what I can to prepare for another 4 year NROTC application during my first college semester. No sense starting at the board multiple times a day.

Best of luck to all

My husband spoke to a contact in Pensacola today. He was told that there was only one April board and it is meeting this week. All results will be out on Monday for NROTC.

This is contrary to what NavyNOLA has said. Can you confirm or deny this, NavyNOLA?

He actually said there are/were two boards in April. . .

There are two April boards. There was a board back in the first week of April, but results are still pending. The second April board is this week, and it will also handle the MSISR scholarships. Regardless, everyone will have a decision before 1 MAY.

I checked this morning and no change, but just checked portal now and my DD 's Selection Status read " Congratulations! " 4 yr Navy option scholarship placed at Princeton. Woohoo. Honestly I was giving up hope.

Woohoo right back at ya. My son got the email while we were having lunch. I logged on to his status page and this what it said:

Congratulations!
You have been selected for a 4-yr Navy Option scholarship.
Your scholarship has been placed at VIRGINIA POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE. Your host unit will be VIRGINIA POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE.
