USAFA Class of 2021 Appointments

Question...it appears that all of our TWE's said the same thing. No Prep School option and no appointment. It also said there is no waiting list...yet MANY have posted that they were declined and then offered an appointment later in May. Does anyone know of that's a thing??

There is the occasional appointment and also additional Falcon Scholarships that are offered for one of the prep schools in the weeks ahead. Last year at this time our DS got the same TWE. The only prep school we knew about was the one near the academy, and it is for mostly for enhancing academics.

The other prep schools are private and offer one year Service Academy Prep programs for mostly all of the military academies. USAFA recognizes 5 I believe. Falcon recipients attend one of these 5. Non falcon recipients can also attend and are referred to as Self Preps. You are responsible for costs as a self prep but bc they are private, some have scholarships in place to offset costs.

Some prep schools offer college credits, others do not. Our DS earned 36 college credits and tuition was mostly offset by scholarships. He did earn an appointment this year as a self prep at MMI in Alabama. Along with reapplying to USAFA next year, cadets can also apply for 3 yr AFROTC scholarships as a back up bc self preps at MMI take AFROTC weekly at UA.

Thank you!! The prep school option is a little confusing...I didn't realize there were options beyond the one in CO. Springs. We will investigate! Congrats again to you all!!

TWE and then appointment later is definitely possible. DS#1 is a C1C at USAFA and received TWE (same wording -- no appointment, no prep school) in mid-April 2013, only to get a call from USAFA admissions 2 weeks later with offer of appointment. In my USAFA class, there were at least 4 or 5 of my classmates who didn't receive their appointments until the day prior to inprocessing day. That was a long time ago and things were different then since everything was snail-mail, but an appointment can still happen, even after receipt of a TWE.

Thank you! It appears that way! Out of sheer curiosity, was there any explanation from the USAFA when the TWE came vs. the eventual appointment?

No explanation. Like most who receive an appointment, my DS didn't really question why he got the TWE first and then the appointment, but I'm sure it was because someone who had earlier received an appointment declined it and he was the lucky beneficiary. There will likely be "recycled" appointments offered up until very close to in-processing day since USAFA will continue to re-offer the declined appointments. My guess on the TWEs and then appointments is that USAFA doesn't want candidates to hang on slim hopes of getting into USAFA and then not have a plan B.

Agreed! Well, on to Plan B in the event that Plan A doesn't show up again![emoji847]
 
Yours and many others have such excellent credentials but despite that, the admissions board determined they do not fit the whole person criteria needed for the 2021 class. Painful to take but they have made their decision. We and many others also got the TWE. Not much else to do but move on with what is best for you or your DS/DD. May the force be with you!

My DS received a TWE yesterday also, heart broken for him. But plan B is a go, Penn State college of engineering (Aerospace engineering) and offer to be in their Honors program. They only invite five percent of the freshman class.

I think it's a generic letter, my son had AP chemistry last year, along with calculus. This year AP calc.
 
DS received TWE yesterday. On to Plan B. Perhaps reapply next year.....perhaps not. Unsure at this point.

My portal still shows my profile as being a candidate. I am grateful to have made it past the TWE wave yesterday, but I'm now a bit confused. Should I call admissions and find out about my status or keep waiting patiently?

Will he be in ROTC? DS#2 is also going to go to PSU, now that he received his TWE , majoring in mechanical engineering and AROTC.

I am in the same situation. I don't think you need to call them. They just haven't decided to give you an appointment/TWE yet. I think it is good, though, that you made it past yesterday. A TWE is probably on the way.

Hold on just a while longer before calling....
You are still eligible for all 3.....TWE/denial , Falcon Scholarship, or Appointment!!

I don't think everyone received their TWE's... I applied and I am still in Candidate status with my completed application. I still have not heard back, so I am assuming I'm one of the people who's waitlisted but have not been notified about it? Maybe I'm wrong though
