My DS received his TWE today, no Appointment nor Prep School. He wants to apply for scholarships and enter Greystone Prep Academy. We didn't apply for any scholarships, as we had been told he was just what the Academies look for and at a minimum they would put him thru the Prep School. Well, now we are going to have to figure out another way. I see people mention Air Force Reserves as a good way to get in, when re-applying, I see ROTC as a good way, but I am a single mom with no support from his dad. I can't afford to pay for him to go to Prep School and from what I have read you can't get FAFSA or normal aid. He would have to get a whole lot of Scholarships to cover the really high tuition for the year. He's Academically highly prepared, top of his JROTC, jut receive Billy Mitchell award in CAP, very strong resume. I need to know what would be the smartest thing to do. We can't apply for JRotc Scholarship, too late. Help, if you know from experience.

All is not lost, it's only a new beginning. The destination can be the same under a different journey!
AFROTC also offers an in-school scholarship at a long list of universities (don't think any prep schools though). Goes without saying your DS must be enrolled in that university, and in the AFROTC classes there for at least 1 semester. At the beginning of the 2nd semester the AFROTC commander at the university can nominate a high performing candidate to receive the in-school scholarship. If chosen, it is awarded towards the middle/end of the 2nd semester and is retroactive to the beginning of the 2nd semester. Which means the 1st semester is yours to pay however you can arrange. The in-school scholarship is not a 100% tuition, but's close. Check it out here to read about the types and requirements: https://www.afrotc.com/scholarships/types
Good luck to your DS, keep pushing forward and reaching higher!!
