Finally Got the E-mail

Hey Swag! I was told FSU got 44K apps this year!
Well FSU is known as the #1 party school in the country! Lol! Looks like my DS will be leaving the sunshine state and following his heart. We'll know more in a few weeks after one last college visit and will keep you posted!

Our Plan B is a no go, declined by Univ of FL/Gators; confirmed with admission no hope on reconsideration and can only transfer there after 60 credits :( We accepted Plan C today just in case Plan A USAFA is a no go.
My DS has friends who were accepted to Ivy's and rejected to UF. Nobody knows the process but they have missed out on some amazing kids. We live in FL. UF is ridiculous and has way too many applicants...just my opinion! Plan C is looking good over here as well! Good luck!

It sucks because we are being transferred this summer to a FL air force base, my DS has 4 years of FL Prepaid College, and I can honestly say my DS is a great kid (kind heart, respectful, Cadet Vice Wing CC AF JROTC, good grades 3+ GPA, 1200+ SAT; ACT Math 29/English 25).

My DD would love to leave the State to...... to Navy of course, but she did get accepted to LSU and we just can't afford it.... estimated parent contribution is 20k per semester........ yikes! She may have to become one of the biggest partiers in the country! LOL Her father is an FSU alum, so is her aunt who works there, and I don't look too awful in maroon.

Still in CPR limbo...... we'll see what tomorrow brings!

My DS has acceptance to Embry Riddle in Daytona Beach FL and would love to go there but we can't afford it...$48K/year :(

I think it's too late for scholarships this year; no AFROTC because DS's SAT was 10 below the minimum requirement.
We have made a deposit to our DS's Plan C. DS was declined for Plan B (Univ of FL). We are also waiting for USAFA decision.

It was very sad for us to receive that email! This process was very emotional for us ....but we were glad to have a plan B, C and D for our 16 year old boy! Thanks for sharing your stories and wisdoms. Either way, my boy is going to fulfill his dream in the Navy!

roguemom35 and madzmom21- tell your kids to hang in there. I have posted a few times my DD's story -not sure if you have seen it but I will provide the cliff note. She is a 2016 high school graduate. Top 1% of her class, straight A's, 11 AP's,4 year varsity soccar, captain of soccer team for two years, track, theater, high SAT/ACT and the list goes on. She did not apply to SA last year but did apply to top school. By January she was either denied or wait-listed from Georgetown, UVA, Tulane, Notre Dame, and American University. She put together plan B and applied to more schools and hated that she "had to start the whole application process all over again". By late March she had three good choices but none were where "she wanted to go". She started the fall at The George Washington University. She excelled in classes and got to know her professors. Her best friend was at USMA and she attended Army/Navy in early December. After the game she was waiting for the train to take her back to school. She called me and said, "I made a mistake last year, I am going to apply to USNA, USCGA and USAFA." Tons of things happened along the way but in the end she was accepted to all three.
I truly believe she had to go through all the rejection last year to get to where she is today. She is more mature and now ready to head off to USNA. Things do happen for a reason. I am convinced if she had applied to the SA her senior year she would have not been appointed. Let your kids be sad for a day-pick their next step and the reevaluate next year.
Best of luck to all of you.

DS is planning to go to GWU in the fall with or without NROTC scholarship.... I am wondering about your DD thinking she made a mistake... was that regarding GWU or just not being at a service academy?

GW is a wonderful school. The mistake was not applying to SA her senior year. She likes GW but just feels it is not the place for her. She has met several of the ROTC class there and speaks very highly of them. PM me and I would be happy to give you my daughters contact info if your DS has any questions.

After being triple qualified with nominations to USAFA and USNA, I received both rejection letters yesterday. It was a tough process, not for the faint of heart. I've been researching admissions, pouring over these forums, reaching out to people, and lots more for the past 4 years. Oh well, got a ROTC Scholarship to Texas A&M, and will continue my goal to be an officer in the military. Good luck to the Class of 2021 at the service academies, and look forward to serving with you one day!

AF - UCF has a great engineering program.
Thanks, UCF Engineering was our Plan C and we accepted/submitted deposit today to lock it in while we wait for USAFA results which isn't too promising at this point but there's still hope.

DS received the TWE from USAFA last Monday. We are sad but life goes on especially with UCF Engineering and AFROTC. I hope my DS would reapply. I think right now he doesn't want to think about it which is ok. We are giving him time and space to get over this. Best wishes to those who have received TWE and to those still waiting for an appointment!
