After much consideration, my DS has decide to accepted his appointment to USNA and decline his appointment to USMA. I'm a USMA grad dad, but proud of his thoughtful approach and commitment to service. I applaud all you fellow parents and your sons and daughters, and wish all the very best, particularly those still waiting - hope this opens up a slot for a deserving candidate.

#3 received the BFE about an hour ago. I broke and checked the portal and the purple/blue box is there, too. SD/Vet nom so no phone call from the congressman or senator (VA-11). He is on the flight back from Italy right now--so he doesn't know yet. (I will let you all know the accept/decline for the purposes of the list after he finds out. He has already accepted USAFA but I think USMA was #1.)

Thanks @cobaltfox #3 did all the work. He also owes a huge debt of gratitude to his guidance counselor--he switched to this wonderful man who is the "Service Academy Guru"--at the beginning of his junior year, he said, "You better do...." and #3 went out there and did it. Me, I just did the driving. <3

Is the BFE shown in the "Overview" page or something else ? What is the purple/blue box ?
 
The Big Fat Envelope (it is black and has the USMA shield/crest on it) arrived in the mail box (the actual mailbox in front of our home) within a minutes of the portal update being noticed. Suddenly and without warning there was a bluish/purple box with new circles and check marks that appeared on the overview page--you cannot miss it when it happens--but there was no PDF letter added to the home page--and you might have to scroll down a little on the Overview page to get the new box on your screen because it comes in below the yellow box that says something about allowing three weeks for any correspondence to be reflected electronically--so it is on the left side of the screen and the green circle check marks remain on the right side of the screen without change. Again, if it happens it will be on the Overview page or in the mail box or, apparently, both at the same time. Good luck to your DS Tex.

Thanks @DrMom. DS received the VP nom about 5 days ago. This is the only nom to USMA. What's your take on DS receiving this nom ?
 
I am not an expert--but I don't think they hand out the VP Noms without serious consideration. I had really given up hope thinking that the admissions cycle for 2021 had wrapped--but from other members on the forum--who are still receiving the 3Q letters at this late date, and from my own #3 receiving his appointment TODAY, and from your son receiving a VP nom, it would seem that the admissions committee and the USMA RCs are still very hard at work building the class of 2021. Hang in there. Your son has nothing to lose by calling his RC and expressing his continued commitment to USMA--and asking if the VP Nom is indicative of anything...like a forthcoming appointment. (That is what I would recommend--and if he cannot get the RC, he can try the regional technical support officer, they are long term experts and definitely know the situation.) So, having a nomination means he is still in the play but I think being 3Q with a nom means everyone is still in play. Good luck. Keep the faith.

What fabulous NEWS! Congratulations.
Our son just received his waiver this week, so now he too, is 3Q. May I ask if portal change first or if the BFE came in the mail first? Also, which page is the purple/blue box on...admin....overview...etc

Dr Mom, I have a question. Our DS was 2Q and needed a medical waiver, which was granted this week. Does that mean DS is now 3Q? I assumed so, but thought I should ask to make sure. Also, do you think this is too late in the cycle for the waiver to help? Our DS has 2 noms, 1 pres- 1 congr. Thanks so much and again~~GOD BLESS and CONGRATULATIONS!
