Has anyone ever gotten a NROTC scholarship with a tier 3 major. I was wondering if anyone could look at my stats and tell me if there is a good chance I will get the NROTC scholarship. I already know that 85% of the scholarships go to tier 1 and 2 majors. I am hoping o get selected so I can major in either economics or political science.

My stats are: (I'm a Junior right now) HS
GPA 3.7
SAT 1400
ACT 30
I take 2 AP classes (History and Chemistry) the rest are honors

I also play JV soccer and more than likely I'll be team captain. As well I run on the cross country team. I have more than 200 hours of community service and I also have a part time job. I'm also apart of the NHS.

I had fairly similar stats to you, and I got a tier 2 scholarship. I am not quite sure how much tier 3 differs from tier 2 or tier 1.

Quantitative economics is a tier 2 major.

Tier 3 scholarships are given out, but as you noted only about 15% are tier 3.
You SAT scores are at the average for all scholarship recipients
From the past 2 years the average SAT score has been
FY16 - Class of 2020 - 1396
Fy17 - Class of 2021 - ~1416

Army ROTC should be considered as a plan B.

I got a tier three nrotc with a 4.21 weighted gpa (~3.9 unweighted) and 35 ACT - still got waitlisted from the Academy. I'm the xc and outdoor track captain at my school, and I'll graduate with 8 APs taken. Anything can happen, and your application will represent much more than just your quantitative stats.

I'm assuming, with your references to the 3 tiers, that you are pursuing the NROTC Navy option. Just wanted to make sure you understood that for the Marine Option no one cares about your major. Of course, the Marines aren't for everyone.

A B.S. in Economics (Quantitative Economics) is generally Tier 2.
