IAMA USMA 2020 AMA

They learn to adapt at Beast. She will be ok. Make sure her boots and shoes fit well, and break in the shoes particularly. Her eating habits will change, and she will see that it's all good.
Thank you brovol. We fly up tomorrow for her overnight on Monday. Hoping to get her boots, low quarters, open her USAA account and do her finger prints....busy, busy, lol. Anything that you feel is a must do?

Enjoy the experience. That is the only must do. It's very special. Go upstairs in the Cadet store, and check out all the cool gear they have (which is reasonably priced). Feel free as a parent to ask questions to the cadets walking around, or if you are sitting at Grant. You will be amazed at how thoughtful, pleasant, and bright each and every Cadet you talk to is.

Check out Highland Falls a little. We always thought the one thing USNA had on USMA was the town it is in, but HF has really grown on us. It is a very salt of the earth town, but has a hidden goodness to it. There are a lot of cool places, like American Burito, and The Market, which has an awesome deli.

Obviously drive around the base. Walk around the cemetery. Flirtation walk is a must do, but if any physical disabilities it would be impossible. Our son took us after A-Day, which was real cool because he was able to share the history he learned during beast.

Just soak it all in. It's an awesome place for sure.

@Noeasyday - Did any new cadets show up that did not make weight/tape or were unable to do the required number of pull ups, sit ups, push ups, meet run times? For example, females can do the flex arm hang for the CFA, but have to do 2 pull-ups by R-Day. Did any 2020 New Cadets get kicked out the first day for failing to meet these standard or are they put on a special program? Was the weight/fitness assessment done on R-day the first week, or at the end of CBT?

I'd like to kind of reiterate the question USMA Mom had but I thought that in the packet it said if females were unable to execute a pull up they could do the arm hang for R-day? Does anyone have any more info on that?

To answer your question, I am not sure what the policy is for sure on if you fail either the pull up/ flex arm hang or height and weight conducted on R-day. I do know if you are under weight, you get double rations since one boy in my conpany was. I think if you are over, they give you time to lose it, but I am not 100% sure. For R-day, I am pretty sure I remmeber seeing females fail to do a pull up and they had to got to the end of the bars and preform the flexed arm hang. I might be wrong but I think that is how it works. That said, with pull ups and this amount of time until R-day. if she practices everyday just trying as much as possible. She should be able to do at least one by R-day.

For the diet issues, there is a vegetarian in my academic company and there is a salad bar for every meal. But for beast there is no salad bar and you only have what they serve which is not always vegetraian in mind. Most survive on peanut butter, since there is an unlimited supply of it. My advice is for her to just get use to eating it, or go hungry. For MREs there are vegetarin ones but not many and again most of the protien in them is from the peanut butter. One positive note, would be that the guys in her sqaud will like her, since it means more food for them if she does not eat it. I can ask my vegetarain in my company if you have anymore questions.
