USAFA Class of 2021 Appointments

Weirdest thing just happened about an hour ago. After getting his TWE on 4/17 my DS moved on and accepted his AFROTC scholarship on 4/22. We put the money down at the school, did the tour yesterday and so on. Today, we received a call from our Senator's office stating that my DS will be getting an appointment offer on Friday. WTH?
Awesome RickD so happy for your DS and you. It has been a long journey. Good luck with everything.

That's fantastic! See, "it's not over until it's over." Congratulations to your DS.[emoji4]

Congrats! That's a GREAT problem for your son to have! Either way, it's an awesome choice!

Same thing happened to DS1 4 years ago. He received a TWE in mid-April 2013 and then 2 weeks later got a call from USAFA admissions that he was being offered an appointment. After the TWE, he accepted his ROTC scholarship and was "all in" for going to Univ of Arizona. He subsequently accepted the USAFA appointment and called the ROTC detachment to let them know that he would be declining the ROTC scholarship after he accepted it. They were very understanding and gave his ROTC scholarship to next in line. I don't think there's anything binding about a ROTC scholarship until they start school, but recommend your DS call the detachment if he decides to accept the USAFA appointment so they can give the scholarship to someone else.

Thanks for the info

My DS still hasn't heard anything one way or another. We had him accept his plan B school and the AFROTC scholarship he was awarded.
You may end up like us. We accepted the scholarship, put $500 down at the school, and then today we learn the door opened again. Crazy.

You never know. Looks like anything can happen! We were very lucky that his plan B school waived the deposit ( $950!) and has given him an offer that is very hard to refuse.

Congrats!! DS had a similar experience from USNA! Offer came 1 month after being turned down. We can appreciate the roller coaster! Time to celebrate!

TWE and then appointment later is definitely possible. DS#1 is a C1C at USAFA and received TWE (same wording -- no appointment, no prep school) in mid-April 2013, only to get a call from USAFA admissions 2 weeks later with offer of appointment. In my USAFA class, there were at least 4 or 5 of my classmates who didn't receive their appointments until the day prior to inprocessing day. That was a long time ago and things were different then since everything was snail-mail, but an appointment can still happen, even after receipt of a TWE.
My DD's AOL told a similar story about one of his candidates. He said that she was notified 2 days before she was set to report to USAFA. She had already put deposits other places and set up housing, but she took the appointment.

Wow! Talk about roller-coaster! From seeing earlier posts...seemed like this is meant to be! So good that he was set for plan B, but if plan A becomes an option.....remember it was plan A for a long time, and a lot of good reasons. Good luck! A lot of us on this forum have been pulling for you and your son!

Congrats. I would consider this to be a rare occurrence with USNA. Was your DS 3Q + nom before the TWE ?

#3 received an appointment to West Point on Saturday. It was unexpected.
After protracted and thoughtful consideration--and a review of the academies' webpages and programs and the Army and Air Force's programs in his area of interest, he has decided to accepted West Point.

My wish is that this change will create a life-changing opportunity for one of your sons or daughters.
Good luck to All!
