USAFA Class of 2021 Appointments

For those who do not believe in fate (or God), I believe DrMom's and RickD's DSs are experiencing this now.

Best wishes and prayers for both.

Thank you Capri. #3 recognized that his decision today and his email to his admissions counselor turning down his appointment opened a pathway for someone to stand on the red footprints in June and serve our Great Nation in the greatest Air Force in the world. He recognized that the gravity of this adult decisions that will set the pathway for everything that follows. He knows that for as much as he wants to fly and loves the Thunderbirds--one of his earliest memories is of seeing them fly over the beach at MacDill--that dream ended with this decision but clearly he is hearing another calling.
May God watch over all of our sons and daughters as they start down a path that is fraught with challenges and risks.

73. DrMom/#3Son/No LOA/Appt March 9, 2017/VA-11/SD-VET

#3 received an appointment to West Point on Saturday. It was unexpected.
After protracted and thoughtful consideration--and a review of the academies' webpages and programs and the Army and Air Force's programs in his area of interest, he has decided to accepted West Point.

My wish is that this change will create a life-changing opportunity for one of your sons or daughters.
Good luck to All!
GO ARMY!
Best of luck TLPK! Both great choices, can't go wrong! Sorry we won't be likely to meet afterall!

After all these months of waiting, accepting a 4 yr any major ROTC scholarship and accepting his admittance to Syracuse.......My DS portal updated this morning with an appointment to USAFA!!! Now he has a tough decision to make.
Congrats on the appointment !! A good morning/day to start out with ..

Sounds very familiar :)

DS has the same decision to make and only one week to do it.

Congratulations @MUSAFA21 and @mom2mnem Please know that you are not 'late' in any way...and there are intangible values to joining the Long Blue Line. I know that my guy took several days to peruse his heart and the webpages and programs before finalizing the decision. Good luck!
Congratulations.
@runnergirl Apparently I am the least anonymous person on the forums...because only a true friend calls me by all four of my initials! <3 This has been such a journey with #3...In my heart when he started down this path, I was so worried that he would reach for his dreams and walk away empty handed. Never underestimate the boy. What I have learned is that there are multiple, wonderful places and pathways where young Americans who are called to serve can train and become leaders.

Same with DS. University of Delaware sweetened the deal by throwing a $10k scholarship on top of the AFROTC one. Very tough decision.
WOW. That can't be easy to decide, but thankfully there is no wrong answer to either choice made. What a wonderful situation to be in......other than having to make the decision of which road to take. Your DS earned it, here's to praying he finds clarity in making his choice.

Syracuse covers room and board because of the type of AFROTC scholarship he has. The kicker is that he has a $20,000 academic scholarship from them. Room and board right now is around $15,000. He would get to keep the difference every year . And it would even apply if he eventually chose off campus housing. They would actually pay him to attend! He also sent me some pictures.....exactly 1 year ago today he and DH were at the Academy for a tour!!!

We toured back in 2013, toured all 4 academies over the last few years. He has a USAFA mouse pad, so he's reminded everyday :) Now, he has a week to decide. He asked me for my $0.02 this morning. I said, "you dreamt of the USAFA since you were 13. Now you're standing at the front door. Do you knock, or do you walk away?". But, I've have also pointed out the bright side of UD when we toured on Tuesday. I keep telling him, it's his decision and we'll support either one. He is the one to live it, not me or my wife. We are both vets (AF and Navy) and did our time. This is his time and he chooses the path that's right for him.
