USNA Waiting List c/o 2021

Received that TWE in the email too yesterday (I hope we don't get a mailed letter too). It's the end of the USNA road for me

I'm sorry to hear that JH...I am, as it's been a quite a journey to get this far, this late in the game. You say it's the end of the USNA road and if so, I wish you nothing but the best as you pursue your alternate plan. Perhaps you'll change your mind and give it another go. You were so close. If so, I'll be cheering for you.

Unfortunately, I will be ineligible next year to apply for the USNA as I would be 22 at that point

Got the final word a few minutes ago from USNA that I won't make it in for the class of 2021 off the waiting list. Really looking forward to this next year of growth so that I can be apart of the class of 2022. I wish all the other wait listed candidates luck! GO NAVY!

Given it's this late in May, you have to look at this as if they were holding onto you, hoping they could make room, because you are just that close. It's like the last few rounds of Musical Chairs, and only a few chairs remain to be removed.

Great attitude on growth. Bet you have already read all the re-app threads.

Good luck, hope we will have seen different news by this time next year.

I also just got the bad news from the waitlist. I have many complaints about the system, none of which are relevant at this point. Such is life, time to improve my application for next year and prepare for nrotc at uva!

Would be curious about the complaints ...If you have systematic issues, there are several here that can pass them on to CGO. On the other hand, if you have issues with how you were handled, would recommend that you talk with your BGO to see how you can avoid the problems next year.

Agreed!

Over the past year, I've just noticed several things about the entire application process which could be improved upon because they aren't really as "fair" as I would think. The handling of my application by usna itself was fine enough from what I saw. The nomination system and the blue chip athletes deal really doesn't seem all that fair, although I do understand why they are created. To go into depth now would really sound like I'm a sore loser, and I don't want to detract from the appointments of others. Maybe I'm just the unlucky loser of a poorly designed system, but probably I just wasn't good enough this time around :) oh well

Remember nomination process is dictated by law, not the SAs. It's been that way for decades. Not saying it's right or wrong, but the SAs work within the system they are provided. It's not just USNA, but USAFA and USMA also working within the Nom system. Uscga does not and usmma has a unique one that is different. You can call it a poorly designed system that is fine but don't blame USNA for a Nom system created and maintained by politicians.

Blue chip athletes... they are probably fewer than one would think. Also don't forget they are still required to be 3Q. The majority of athletes at USNA have very impressive stats that stack up against anyone.

T minus 23 days till I-Day, and I'm still on the WL. A blessing or a curse? At least I know that I can survive the seemingly impossible "long wait" (although I can't say the same for my parents) :)

End of the line for me, the anticipated TWE arrived last night. It was definitely a blessing to challenge myself to wait and see what would happen- instant gratification is sometimes the enemy of character development. Right now I am unsure of the necessity to attend USNA to achieve a commission as I will be involved in NROTC at RPI this coming fall. Regardless, I will be completing at least the basics of my application to allow myself the benefit of having choices, and see if my mind is still in the same place in a few months after viewing from a different perspective.

It's hard to imagine that only a few months ago I believed that USNA was the only way for me to reach my goals. Now, I am not so sure that it is and I feel very grateful for all of the opportunities/difficulties that the application process exposed me to.

I wish everyone good luck and strength as they begin the application process. And to the ones privileged enough to receive an appointment, I hope that you find following winds and fair seas.

There is no doubt in my mind that "Hockeygirl" will do great things in life and soon a new journey will begin for you. May God bless you and keep you safe

Consider reapplying regardless of how you feel now or even in a month or two. Open opportunities, and then evaluate. Waiting list means you were competitive. Pursue plan B though obviously, but you have been through the process, and although it is tedious for sure, it will be easier the next time.

Good luck!

After two months on the wait list, DS's journey ended as well. I told DS the very same thing I told him 18 months ago when this process began: Don't overlook and underestimate the other paths to military service. (His grandfather, who was OCS, had an exceptional career as a naval aviator for almost 30 years.) DS is looking forward to attending the University of Virginia in the fall on the NROTC scholarship. Good luck to all those pursuing any and all paths to military service.
