AFROTC Book money/stipend

LMAO :shake: the thread diverted from AFROTC stipend to NROTC events.

I just love how threads warp! Not being sarcastic, just saying I find it funny!

Ha ha! Is the kettle black? :shake:

With the best of intentions, we are all guilty of spinning these threads towards point unknown at times. When you look at a thread with dozens of pages and go back to the OP, the transformation is remarkable.

Indeed, Pima. I am a warping specialist! Mention money and reimbursement and my mind forages it's own trails LOL. Back on track though, once the waiver came through for my DS, they were surprisingly fast getting the funds over to the university. He has not seen the book refund yet and we don't know if it is included with the money sent to the university or if that will come to him separately. This was NROTC and his scholarship was awarded a few months ago as a sideload scholarship, NROTC marine option, so maybe it is processed separately from the regular scholarships. No stipend money yet. But hopefully they will act quickly on everyone's because everything is so expensive out there. I know some of the students that went on the recent trip to South Carolina did not even have extra money to eat so the gunny Sgt. covered it temporarily. ( here I go again)

Now off track even more, jiller59, my DS was marching with the platoon and with the smaller squad. They took second place. The MIDNs practiced a lot and, though 1st place would've been better, that should be proud of their achievement.

FWIW, I also laughed at the pay comment. First thought that went through my mind....welcome to the military!

When Bullet would go TDY we were always out of pocket! Move? OMG, the only way we made money was a partial DITY! (Do It Yourself)
The reason they give you TLA(temp lodging allowance) and DLA(dislocation allowance) is because it costs a lot, and as big as that check maybe, the outlay to start up a new home, even on base will eat away almost all of it.
~ 11 moves in 21 years...do you know how many different window curtain rods I have had to purchased? Too many because the last house windows were 48 and this one is 61. Don't even get me started how some movers will pack everything including the garbage in your powder room or open cereal boxes, while others will not ship one spice. My DS flipped because he and his new bride moved to a new base and she spent 300 at the commissary. I told him he was lucky! Think about how much it costs to replace what you had to pitch...milk, eggs, oil, butter, salad dressing, fruits, vegetables, bread, cheese, etc. Now add in cereal and spices.

Like I said that DLA payment looks great in the bank account, but after you buy everything to set up house and pay the water, sewer, gas, electricity and cable deposits plus restocking the house, and curtain rods/shower curtain rods you will see it depleted and probably plus some! That does not even touch rental deposits
~ Oh and if you have a pet, add in kenneling if the TLFs don't allow pets.

It took Bullet and I several moves to actually finesse our moves to make a few pennies. DS made some big bucks in his move, but he had the luxury of our experience.

Back on topic. If you or your child has not received anything yet, have them talk to their NCO. DS had an issue, and it came down to somewhere a number was transposed for his bank account.

Does anyone know how much the current book allowance is? I want to buy my fall semester books early, but I need to know my budget. Thank you.

Don't BUY rent through CHEGG! Trust me it is not only easy, but it is cheap!

+1 to Pima. Price shop, amazon also has rentals that Chegg may not.

Chegg all day long when it came to renting textbooks. Saved on average $250/semester easily.

And they throwing goodies inside the box with your books as well.

I would also recommend that you do not buy your books until you get there. Chegg and Amazon will get them to you within days. The reason why is many profs will place supplemental books on their list, but once you go to the class they may tell you that they do not ever use the supplementals on their list.

$300 book stipend is a bit of a surprise - first time I heard it but I verified it on military.com. Also saw type 2 scholarship is now reduced to $15,000 Max from $18,000. DS school pays difference so I don't think it will matter for him but some cadets may have an unexpected balance due.
What school is that? Boston U does the same. Always good to know these schools for future ROTC candidates.
