I am going into my senior year in high school, and I have been in afjrotc for 3 years now. Since I was a freshman in high school I have wanted to be a combat rescue officer in the Air Force. Now I am applying for a afrotc scholarship, but I have come across some problems.

First, I have smoked weed twice. It was a dumb decision, and I was honestly just curious. However, as I said, I only did it twice, and I have no intention of doing it again. I know that the first corps value of the air force is "integrity first", so I really don't want to lie. My question is: will this hurt my chances of getting a scholarship?

Secondly, in my past, I struggled with depression. I have not been depressed in over a year, and I never had any suicide attempts or detailed thoughts or stuff like that. I did take meds for it, and I am tapering off now. By the beginning of my senior year, I will not be on any meds at all. I was never hospitalized or put in in-patient treatment, but I did do counseling. What are my options here?

Thanks so much for reading all of this and helping me out.

The weed thing might hurt you when the scholarship interview comes around. But like you said, it's important to be honest above anything else. So just disclose it during the interview and during your security clearance.

The depression thing....sorry man, it'll be tough for you because you'll need to disclose the medication use. And the problem with that is the DoDMERB, which you have to pass to get the scholarship. I'm sure others who have chimed in on DoDMERB and depression can help you more here, but it's going to be an uphill battle.

I'm really sorry, man. I know how tough this is.
