Beast Laundry Problems at USMA

^^^ Maplerock - that's until you've paid $$$ to replace lost uniforms (plebes don't make enough $$ to replace items that somehow never make it back), boiled synthetic compression shorts that have lost all stretch and only sag, and grey anything that was once white ... then if your kid wants to send it out and (as an upper class cadet) pay for it, by all means, let those rotors whirrrrrrr and send them the card ..... ;)

Why pay at all? Let those little birds fly!

That's one approach .... lol.... I foster independence in other ways, but am a safety net within reason. Non-required items/travel/vacations are on them.

I can hear the rotor blades.

If the laundry system lost the uniform items, your cadet has the claims system to reimburse them. They just need to do their part, keep the ticket and follow the rules to get it filed appropriately. Their TL should be able to help them with that process. There is no reason they should be paying out of pocket or asking parents to send them money to do so. If they are, they are not holding the laundry service accountable and it will continue to be the status quo where everyone complains and nothing will be fixed.

Throwing this out as a thought as well, but the way I supplemented the laundry system when I needed to was to ask my sponsor to use their washer/dryer on the weekend. If you build that relationship with your sponsor family, most will be willing to do so.

I was going to ask you if you ever did laundry at your sponsor's house? I have two incoming this Fall. What did you expect out of your sponsors? This sounds like an odd question. But I find the plebes I picked up throughout the academic year usually worked out better than the ones I got assigned in the beginning.

Yes (not me, but my offspring)! Sponsors are a much needed respite from the academy and all meals, laundry services and rides are much needed and appreciated!

I expected zero things out of my sponsors and was 100% grateful for everything they ended up helping me with. They adopted me as another daughter, but that's the relationship that I had (and still have) with them. Laundry, home cooked meals, a couch just to crash on to nap, rides were all super nice and always appreciated; that kind of stuff can literally make a cadet's day, week, or month when everything seems overwhelming and grey at school, but what ended up being even more important was the mentorship and support I receive still from that family.

I can see why you are able to build a strong bond with your sponsor family. You are appreciative and curtious. Good luck with your time in the army. It's always a pleasure to see a great officer/old grad.

Very true and my cadet used the claim process, but the process takes a LONG TIME (it took about four months to get $$) so in the interim, I laid out the cash. Mine also used the machines (in Grant) when there was time, and used the service only when desperate. It's all good. They manage to FIO.

Only have to laugh...fly a hatchling in training with a chaffed a$$ to 'learn'. ...however this is a need for improvement, otherwise, agree "let the little birds fly!" (always appreciate your opinion and wisdom)
