Nomination

In our state of WA and our district, the offices make it very clear that they will do their best not to nominate the same student to the same service academy in order to give chance to nominate other students. For our district, the Congresswoman will nominate 10 students to each academy. However she only choose one student as her principle nomination for each academy. The rest of the students will go into a “National Pool” that CaptMJ mentioned earlier. Congrats.

A change of how they do it. Our DD was waiting to hear from the congressman’s office (re. Candidate interview) as the web site said all candidates would be contacted late Oct early Nov. When Nov 20th rolled around my DD was questioning the date and why she had not heard anything. I agreed since the 2nd third of the month had gone by. I told her that with her brother getting the senators nom the congressman called and said he would no longer need to interview since he had the senators. My DD though that with all her work an effort she at least deserved a phone call or email of the like.

She emailed and called and the response over the phone was this. The office was waiting for the senators to complete their interviews (that was done three weeks ago as she was told). Yes, you will be receiving a call to set up your interview even if you already have a nomination from the senator.

Finally the reply email: I will be in contact with you next week to set up an interview date.

In short the communication on the wed site was inaccurate, the candidates should have been told late Nov early Dec. If your DD or DS are up against the same situation maybe they can reach out as my DD has. Just a thought.

I’m just wondering why it took an email and phone call from my DD to prompt the feedback.

Who knows? It's likely just the tyranny of numbers in some cases. In Texas, the Senators are up against close to 1000 nomination applicants.

I would like to think that was the case but there were only just over 200 candidates this year. Low numbers for whatever reason. I think they just posted the wrong dates and didn’t realize it until late.

We are from Ohio and I was told that more than 400 applications were received and less than 200 interview letters went out

DS's BGO said he'd only had 4 interviews for USNA in our district. The Congressman's liaison said they have 40+ for USAFA :O

Umh! Now that I read the last I can recall my DD saying there were several candidates for USAFA and she did not meet many for USNA. Maybe I can pick up some information at the alumni dinner for candidates. The region admissions LT will be the guest speaker.

I will say it’s very different from when my son went through the process; there were a lot more candidates then what was stated in the senators letter for my DD compared to my DS.
