Were you told by any MOC nominating committee person to notify them if you receive a nomination from another source? There have been candidates that have received multiple noms from NY MOC's. Yes the more slates you are on, the more chances you have of being accepted.

Was not told that by anyone else, just heard that the reason why senators wait so long is because they don’t want to nominate people already with nominations.

That wasn't DD's experience 4 years ago.

PIMA who is a very, very, knowledgeable poster has posted the NY MOC's "share the wealth" when nominating, but that wasn't DD's experience. Again, 4 years ago, same NY Senators, different Congressman for our district.

Sometimes they share the wealth or stop sharing it depending on the size of the pool. Large pool (500+) they tend to like to share the wealth. Sometimes candidates also get duplicates because not every MoC talks with the Sens.

Each state handles things differently -- and things can change from one year to another, especially if a MOC changes. Whether all MOCs are from the same political party can make a difference in some districts/states but not in others. In competitive states, some take the "share the wealth" view. Other MOCs may take the position: I'm going to nominate whom I want to nominate regardless of what anyone else does."

While it seems like a crapshoot, in my experience and as a general rule, those who truly "deserve" noms get them. I've rarely if ever seen a candidate that I thought was a shoe-in for a nom not receive one -- and this is in a hyper-competitive area. That said, more frequently I've seen kids get noms and wonder what the MOC committee saw in them. Must have been something . . . (and no, not politically connected or recruited athletes or. . . .)

Anyone hear from VA Senators yet?

Not that it will be the same but my DS heard from one Senator and his Congressman VA5, although it’s a different Congressman this year, around 12/17 last year (posted it to FB so I know the exact date for the congressman). Warner, I believe was the Senator letter, Kaine never sent anything.

Thanks Mom21. The waiting is tough but not unexpected.

A bit surprised in our home! Got a call from a staffer yesterday requesting DS's permission to use his name in a press release to come out this week. Yes to that of course, but that is all the information that was provided by the staffer. He logged on to his USNA portal, and there are TWO Nom's in his nomination spot. One from today and one dated a week ago. We have not heard anything from anyone other than the request for permission to use his name. I guess he has 2 Nom's, but at this point we don't even know who they are from. Is that odd? He had the AFA as second choice, he is still undecided, checked that portal and no nom's listed. So I guess he has none to the AFA?

I wanted to revive this thread and find out how Mississippi families and DD/DS are doing. Has your DD/DS received a LOA? Nomination?
This has been a two year process that we have supported our DD in and to have it finally coming to a close is very much a relief.
My DD has received a nomination and we are waiting to hear if she has an appointment.
DS has received nominations to USMA, USNA, and USAFA. Waiting to hear on appointment. USMA is his first choice.

Al Franken's office "postponed" interviews 3 days before when they were to happen. Now he's announced his upcoming resignation. His office isn't taking calls. Does anyone know what could/might become of the interviews and or nominations from his office?

Four possible scenarios that I can think of: 1. Interviews may still be scheduled once everything settles down. 2. They may submit nominations w/o interviewing based on the strength of the application alone. 3. They don’t submit any nominations this year. 4. They can defer to whoever will be taking his seat and allow them to make nominations depending on the timing of when the transition occurs. If they decide to let the new Senator make selections they could be given a deadline extension by the academy, if requested. *The new Member will inherit nominations submitted, if Franken’s office submits 8 names for a slate then the new Senator can add 2 names to the slate if they’d like, but they can’t alter the 8 who were nominated already should Franken submit nominations prior to leaving.

Nothing here either. Hoping to hear from MOC this week.
What district are you in?
Tx-03
Plano area... Good Luck. I haven't heard much of anything from that area - but I'm in TX-10 west side of Houston and onward to Austin/SA. The waiting is killing me too... but I know how the process works. After 24 years in the Navy - "Hurry Up and Wait" is a part of life in general.

We are in TX-22. Son is a reapplicant. Last year he got his Senator Cruz and Senator Cornyn letters in early January and received his nomination from TX-22 near the end of January.
