Appointment

Ugh! He's been checking email regularly, including junk and spam folders. It is confusing that his application is not up for review yet. Does anyone know how long the review board takes to review an application? I realize we'll all know within the next 10 days or so, but we're all driving ourselves crazy checking email and BD.

DS was completed before October 1, and hasn't heard anything. Looking on the bright side we really are still at the point that "no news is good news". Patience really is a virtue and we have to hope that he is still being considered be it for an appointment or some sort of prep program. Stay the course, remain positive, focus on the here and now, and remember that each day without a denial is day you're still in the hunt.

DS application was also completed before October 1, received notice for DoD physical two days later. Finally received the 'qualified' status from DoD today after two month's wait (and a remedial before Thanksgiving), which was a tremendous relief. Received word Oct. 21 that the application would go up for review within two weeks, but there's been no word since. After reading many other threads, I can't help but wonder if we are delayed because we are from Virginia, and admissions is inundated with Virginian applicants? We are making ourselves crazy with conjecture after four months. It is so nice to know we're not alone.
Us Virginians must be an impatient bunch - I am right there with you about making ourselves crazy. We are in a super competitive region, so here's hoping both of our DS's will have a happy outcome. CGA is the only SA he is interested in, so if this is not a positive outcome, he'll concentrate on his college choices and look to receive a commission upon graduation. Fingers crossed for all of us that are waiting.

Well hello my slightly southern neighbors! We in Maryland seem to be just as impatient. We will all have an outcome soon and on the bright side,Christmas is in 11 days!

DS received an offer of appointment to Coast Guard Academy Scholars (CGAS) Program last night. Wrestling Coach called with the news and an email with official appointment to CGAS arrived today. DS will likely attend NAPS to continue wrestling while in the Scholars Program. Cadets have until May 1st, 2018 to accept or decline.

DS also received two nominations for the USNA (Senatorial Nomination and Congressional) and they have requested fall 2017 transcripts be filed at the conclusion of the semester.

Now we wait and pray our DS makes the right decision for his future.

Congrats to those getting appointments! Please don't discount an appointment to Prep School. This is an awesome opportunity and one that should not be looked at as "second best". Many who have gone through CGAS do much better 4/C year than their direct appointment counterparts. Yes, it's two additional semesters in school, but not much in the grand scheme of things. Besides, that year counts towards military retirement (as you are consisted enlisted during that time).

I'd be happy to recount a parent's view of CGAS. What Grevar says is true. Plus the cadet comes in with a significant bank account due to being on enlisted pay for 10 months. Many direct appointment parents wish their cadet could have done it first.

My DS is currently at NAPS in the Scholars program, be happy to answer any questions you all may have

Hello, very new at this. So my DD got a letter saying she got a conditional apt. They did not receive her DoDmerb Result yet. Does this mean when they receive it she will get a full apt?

Hello, Very new at this too. My DD has still not heard back on a decision. We did get the email notifying that her application was going up for review in October. Is there any way of knowing how many cadets have received appointments so far? Or, how many are still available to get a yes at this point?

You will find out next week... they are still working the final selection boards from what the AO said on Thursday.

Your DD will get a full appointment so long as she passes her DoDMERB by the date indicated in the appointment letter (on Bears' Den) unless another condition was indicated.

Well, we are entering the last week of decisions. Best of luck to everyone who hasn't yet heard!
I was going to post the same sentiment! It's been a long road for so many of us, and no matter the outcome of the decision, we all should be incredibly proud of our children. Best wishes to everyone! If you are celebrating a holiday this month, warm wishes to you and your loved ones.

Good grief! Looks like another day will go by without any news. I was hoping there would be at least a few notified after the weekend. DS and I were talking and he is thinking that his chances go down with each day that passes. His reasoning is that if it were good news, he would have heard from his AO. He's called him a couple of times over the past month, and has not received a return call. Is that normal?
