Appointment

Good grief! Looks like another day will go by without any news. I was hoping there would be at least a few notified after the weekend. DS and I were talking and he is thinking that his chances go down with each day that passes. His reasoning is that if it were good news, he would have heard from his AO. He's called him a couple of times over the past month, and has not received a return call. Is that normal?
They have a lot of territory and are very busy at this time. It might be better to email so that they see it and can reply without having to go back and hear message.

I don't know the answer, my DS is still waiting too, so we are trying to think that each day with no news is a GOOD sign because that means he's still in the running!? ;) Either way, I know it's hard to wait. And he hasn't heard from his AO either despite emailing, so hopefully it just means the AO folks are busy trying to get this all done.

I agree. I don't think that time is necessarily a good measurement for determining our decision. I don't think it plays much of a factor to be honest. It is very difficult to wait, though, and I'm very anxious to see my decision.

I've been lurking on these boards for some months now and have become very vested in your journeys. Please let us know how things turn out for you, no matter the outcome. Best of luck to everyone over the final few days.

DS is handling this wait a lot better than we are.

I’ve waited until today to sign into this forum, although I’ve been watching your discussions and feeling your ups & downs from ‘afar’. Phantom, your DS and my DD have an ability to remain ‘rekaxed’ (at least as it’s perceived by those around them).
I believe time may be moving in slo-motion for families of hopeful USCGA cadets! .
Best wishes everyone!

My DD and I are thinking his admission chance is less and less each passing day. Of course he is not being sought as an “an athlete” nor he is a “ blue chip” or any other “chip.” As the deadline approaches, I can only deduce the remaining decisions are going to be in a form of a generic congrat or regret email. I am also pretty confidence we will all be finding out this Friday. It is too cruel to get a rejection letter on Christmas Eve. At least give the candidate two days to console. Good luck to those still waiting and congrats to those future cadets. You have earned it!

DS phoned by admissions officer and offered spot on the waitlist for the prep school. Here's hoping he moves up the waitlist and gets to attend CGAS!!
That's great news!!! Here's hoping he moves up and attends CGAS!! Fingers crossed. I'm so happy to hear some news. :)

From what I can tell, students who've been accepted thus far are athletes. Others have been offered prep school. That leads me to believe that the majority of people haven't been notified yet. Unless USCGA only admits recruited athletes, the rest of us (or our DS/DD) still have every reason to believe they'll be admitted. Am I missing something?

In other words, have there been any admitted students who have been admitted to USCGA (not prep) and who are NOT athletes?

If not, then I think we're all still in the running.

All this worrying to be solved within the next couple days!

That is,unless placed onto a waitlist, which becomes a whole new test of patience...

It isn’t true that only athletes have been accepted so far. If you read through this thread there are a couple who weren’t. Remember, this list is a very small sample of all the applying students and families. Only 9 reported acceptances from this group, right?

However, in furtherance of your point that there are many acceptances still to come, I would note that the Facebook parent group for the class of ‘22 only has 26 or 27 members. If the numbers are similar to last year, there will be approximately 190 acceptances from EA. Take all that for what ever it’s worth.

DD is an athlete and has not heard yet although coach reached out and asked if she would prep if offered. That was last week and still no official word yet. There are now 49 members in the Class of 2022 Facebook page but I would imagine not everyone that was offered has joined the group. The only certainty is that there is still a few days left till the deadline and there are obviously some spots not filled. All the candidates will find out most likely by end of business Friday but I am fairly confident not getting an appointment will just be another redirection towards a different path of success for most of these gifted young men and women.

Hello! I was in the same boat as all of you last year as a parent and just wanted to say Hang in There!! Not much longer now and try not to read too much into anything, I don't really think there is any special rhyme or reason to when/how appts are given out, and there is a small percentage of applicants on this forum, so you really aren't getting the big picture. I remember last year early admission was right up until the deadline or so. I know it's hard not to wonder what going on..lol but don't lose hope! And my son says the prep school kids are amazing, so if they get prep..that's GREAT! And if they don't get in first try, they should absolutely try again if it's in their heart. Good luck to all! :)

Thanks for the encouragement! It is a very competitive road our kids are on for this endeavor, and not everyone will make it. We are anxious to hear the outcome, but we also try to keep in mind just how much of a long shot it really is. If our answer is a 'no', we will all be disappointed, but life will go on, and these kids will succeed no matter what. Now, to make it though these next few days without biting all my fingernails off. :)
