I know I am putting the cart WAY before the horse, but I'm trying to plan a summer vacation while plane tickets are less expensive. I am attempting to figuire out the window of days that works for all scenarios, for every member of the family...I may have no hair left by the end.

I see I-day is jun28, does anyone know when ppw is?

Also, a bonus if anyone can answer! If she chooses to attend the school she is already accepted to and go the nrotc route, does anyone know if she would have to go early to that school? Perhaps that is school/battalion (Old Ironsides) dependent, but I thought I would throw it out there. I can't find anything on the website.

Thanks for any guidance.

Pretty sure PPW is the August 9-12 weekend. And I'm also pretty sure that report dates for NROTC/universities are indeed school and unit specific.

Make your reservations for PPW now and check the USNA schedule for dates. It gets harder to find a place as it gets closer. We used HOMEAWAY and always worked if we had a group with enough bedrooms, back yards, grills, TV, WIFI and a place to relax. Also you have a kitchen, eating area and save a lot on food and snacks from markets. It can save a lot of money rather than a lot of Hotel rooms. It seems that it is August eight through August twelve. Good luck and a great ride ahead.

I have looked for this but been unable to locate...where did you find the dates for PPW?? I was wondering if it is something that changes? I see other dates on the USNA calendar, but not PPW.

I would certainly wait until someone receives AND accepts an appointment before making reservations. It doesn't a make a lot of sense to book travel/hotels before you are even sure what college they will be attending.

I booked hotel rooms for I-Day and PPW the first week of September (three months before my DS received his offer of appointment). I had to guess at the dates for PPW, but was glad that I did. The hotel where I wanted to stay was completely booked (for August 2018) by the end of September 2017.

The Marriott waterfront is already sold out. I wouldn’t wait too long to book if you think your DS/DD stands a chance. Canceling after the TWE is easier than booking if your BFE doesn’t arrive until late April or after.

I couldn't help but feel VERY.... superstitious, but I went ahead and also did reservations for IDay and PPW, with the knowledge we could cancel the reservations if needed. #majorknockingonwood #throwingsaltovermyshoulder

We did wait for the offer of appointment to arrive (yesterday), but today I did spend 4 hours making travel and accommodation arrangements. The place I wanted us to stay for I-Day was sold out, but I did find something historic within walking distance of USNA that wasn't terribly pricey. Frequent flier seats for PPW were difficult to come by, so I had to buy tickets outright. Even if my DS didn't get his offer already, I probably wouldn't have waited too long to make arrangements for things that could be cancelled. Don't know if I would've purchased plane tickets without an offer of appointment though!

I don’t think I will have total comfort until DS is actually there for I-day. Although I do know that is too long to wait to make reservations. We will be bringing a total of 6 for PPW, that is a big chunk of $$$ for airfare to loose if something changes. So we may make the LONG drive for that weekend. Haven’t decided yet. We are going to book housing though as it can be canceled.

I have searched the boards and only see a PPW and 2C family weekend. Are ther no general family weekends in the fall? Thanks

Not formal "weekends" but if you can get there on a weekend, depending upon duty schedule, you can be with your Plebe during the day during the school year. We used to get sandwiches and drinks for Plebe Company members and Squad mates and meet at the Piano in the bottom of the Hall by the displays with an upper classwoman (cousin of a Plebe) who was a tremendous artist. They may not be let off the Yard ( I don't remember) but you can meet with them and wander over to Dry Dock.

For those driving from the Northeast and New England check out EZ-Pass. It saves a lot of time and NY is free for the pass if you pay and renew by credit card (don't have to live in NY). If they are going to be late for a return report from a Holiday just have them call in. It happens every year and lots are in that situation. DD was crazy one Thanksgiving when we were going to be two hours late for report (two hours backup at the Bridge off the NJTP). I told her that I had the seat on the NCOIC desk many a time and just call them. The response was "you called in, I logged it, take your time, and be safe" Same works for those flying in.

I just purchased our plane tickets for I-Day! #3 outbound, #2 returning....its getting real. Of note: We got the last of the 'cheap' fares for our return flight. Out of BWI, so I suspect it IS indeed prudent to make you plans!

Every little step along the way is so very exciting, emotional. Finding it hard really to focus on other things besides this whole journey. Is there a disorder for this (lol....kinda-sorta)?!??
