Is it better to get a nomination from a senator or representative or is there no difference in terms of how likely one would get accepted?
I would assume usually it's easier to get accepted with a representative nomination since senatorial nomination winners are usually extremely qualified, and you will be competing with them for an appointment.

It's simple math, too. Less constituents to compete against for a Congressman's slate. Here in CA, each Senator received over 600 applications. Our district received 50 total (4 for USNA).

Just called Lowey's (NY-17) office. They said they sent out letters about two weeks ago. When I told them I didn't receive anything they said that I did get a nomination but my letter must have gotten lost somewhere. So that's a little annoying, but I'm just happy to get a nom!

Now 3Q + Nom + LOE. Very happy :)

Mistakes happen! Congratulations! Hope to see ya at Beast!

Congrats! Just a quick question: what does 3Q mean? Sorry, I’m new to this website

A "3Q Letter" basically says the candidate is qualified physically, academically, and medically. Triple qualified, or 3Q. I don't know if everyone who is qualified gets a letter.

3Q= triple qualified. Must be 3Q and have a. Imitation to be eligible for an appointment. The 3 Q's are (1) medically, i.e.- DODMERB (2) physically fit, i.e. - Candidate Fitness Test (3) "academically", but that includes test scores, GPA, etc. but also leadership, essay, everything else.

So does one actually get a 3Q letter from USNA?

my DD has passed her CFA (regional admissions counselor told us it was competitive), has been deemed "Qualified" by DoDMERB (letter received), and (of course) we feel she is academically competitive- ACT score of 35, SAT scores of 1490, top 5% in the country on National Spanish Exam, Varsity tennis and badminton player, county sportsmanship award, multiple state scholar-athlete awards, tutor, certified lifeguard, Girl Scout assistant leader, etc.... (and has a congressional nomination; all in highly competitive NY-03).

Those are good stats and comparable to most who apply. I don't think that USNA gives out 3Q letters.

Thank you, Dadx4. It's hard to remember sometimes that the SA's all function a little bit different from each other.

DS received nomination for USMMA from Senator Kaine.
Now... question!
DS asked for USNA nomination as 1st choice and USMMA was 2nd choice. Since he got the nomination for USMMA, I guess his chance of getting the momination for USNA from Senator Kaine is over?

Virginia coordinates between MOC and it is unlikely that any nom dupes will be given.
I have heard the Virginia senators coordinate but that the reps don’t necessarily. DS got a Warner nom to USNA and we are still hoping for a rep nom.
DS has a nomination from Senator Warner and hoping for a nomination from Congressman as well, but signs point against it.

What signs??
DS got a rejection letter from Senator Kaine saying that it could be because he was already nominated. So there is coordination in VA.
If you look back at last years Virginia Nom thread several people got senator and rep noms.

I was one of the applicants who received nominations from both a Senator and a Congressman. Senator Warner nominated me to USMMA and Congressman Rigell (VA-02) gave me two nominations, one to USNA and the other to USMMA. I received a letter from Senator Kaine that they do not double nominate so I would not be receiving a nomination from him. And yes the Senators do coordinate on their nominations but the Representatives do not.

@mommydoc @Dadx4 your DS or DD could still receive a nomination from your representative, they just might be moving slower than the Senators. If it is the same from last year I believe the deadline to submit them to the respective Academies is January 31.

Thank USMMA2021. Some Representatives coordinate in VA and others do not. We live in a district where our Representative coordinates with the Senators, so only one nomination is possible, and that puts DS at a disadvantage. Northern VA is ultra-competitive. Unlikely that DS will win slate or be in top 150 on NWL. DS is expecting rejections but has some reasonable backup plans in place.

Anybody heard from Senators Toomey and Bob Casey Jr. yet?

We have not...have you heard anything yet? Awarded a nomination from congressman but have not heard from Senators yet...
Heard Toomeys are being sent this week and they use a principal with competitive alternative method. Casey’s office uses a competitive slate and didn’t state when their NOMs were going out but since they coordinate I would assume this week as well or next week. Good luck to all still waiting.

You can check your USNA portal. DS has not received a letter yet but his portal is showing a PA senatorial nomination.

Heard from Cornyn's office. If you haven't heard back yet, keep waiting for about 1-2 more weeks because decisions are still being made.

Is there a way to search this thread for specific states? 26 pages is, well, 26 pages. Uffda!
