Notification of Appointment

Varies highly by office: USAFA 2017 son: phone call from Congressman. USNA 2021 son: portal flipped over in March with no fanfare and later found out he was principal nom (a couple people told us this after the fact, but who knows) from a retiring senator so the office was basically gone after swear-ins in January (Son did have to do medical waiver process due to a surgical injury repair but still. . . . pins and needles until March. . .).

DD saw all the magic updates in her portal. It became real when the BFE arrived in the mail.
New to forum as of tonight...son received LOA in Oct, and phone call about nomination exactly one week ago (final item required). He can see that the nomination status was updated on his portal. From what I'm reading for your daughter's magic updates, it didn't take long for the BFE to arrive? We have been curious about the timeframe. If the candidates accept offers of appointment right away, which my son plans to do, I assume it's not too early to start making reservations for I-day (for myself and husband)? Thank you for any additional info

BFE should arrive in less than two weeks, I'd say. Congratulations!!

It was a wonderful pre-Christmas gift, that nomination call on Dec. 20! Our family is still celebrating. My DS has, like most of these hard-working young people, been working and preparing for this for years. Awesome to see the hard work paying off! I appreciate the info and kind words, and having a "place" to go to ask questions. My son is already checking the mailbox each day.

Finding that notifications vary greatly, DS has 3:

Senior Senator - received a letter about 2 weeks after DS noticed it on his portal

Junior Senator - received an email, including notice of a press release, and a letter followed about a week after

Congressman - noticed in it portal, and a phone call came (which he unfortunately missed due to Holiday napping [emoji42]) about a week later

Just waiting for the offer of appointment to show up in his portal, which he was told will happen early next week [emoji572]️!

DD received a call a few days after her interview from Junior Senator notifying her of nomination. The next day she checked her portal and there was a nomination update, but it was a nomination from our Congressman. He never did interviews and never notified her verbally of her nomination, so it was a surprise to see that. The Junior Senator nomination showed up in portal about a week after the phone call. About a week after that, both official nomination letters came in the mail.

She had received her LOA in September, so her appointment notification showed up via email within days of nominations posting in her portal and the official appointment arrived in the mail about a week later. There was about a 10 day span between first nomination notification and official appointment email.

She never received a call to interview with our Senior Senator. We understand he does those in late December/early January - so could be she was not selected to interview as she had already received her appointment.

DD checked her portal today and has a nomination from our Senator! But no letter yet. Already has one from U.S. Representative - she got a letter about ten days before it hit the portal.

DS received a congressional nomination mid December but found out through his portal. The congressional staffer was none too happy as he said they normally give the office a few days to notify the candidate. Then, he received a call from his congressman last week with an offer of appointment. He was told that the portal update and letter (BFE) should arrive sometime this week. We are all very excited! My DS still has an interview with a senatorial MOC in 6 days. We are not sure whether he should go or notify them of pending offer if no formal letter or portal update before then?

Anyone know if the BFE arrives around the scheduled portal update? DS was told last week his portal will update with appointment offer Tuesday (EEEK!!). Will the BFE be arriving close to then? Or does it come 2weeks-ish after the portal shows the offer of appointment? Only curious about it is all...

When my DS was appointed, he got a call first from the MOCs office, then it took almost 2 weeks to show up on portal and then another couple weeks after that to get the BFE in the mail. This was in 2014/15, though.

Usually the BFE follows the portal update and it can range from a few days to a few weeks. Depends on how fast Admissions and the mail systems are moving.

I'm just glad to read that someone else's DS has been holiday napping - catching up on sleep was my DS's favorite part of Christmas. I kind of expect Plebe Parents Weekend to be the same.

Thanks for this bit of info- DS accepted appointment on Jan 2 and hasn't received BFE yet (portal had been updated within a day or two). Good to know those BFEs can take a few weeks to arrive.

BFE arrived today for USNA. < 2 weeks after BGO called with news of DD appointment and portal update. It's exciting, now the tough call on which college to attend. Several excellent options, all very humbling.

It can vary on how fast a BFE comes. With the holidays it can slow down. Also as we approach the end of application season Admissions had a lot of paperwork to deal with too. And yes, if you know DS is going to accept his appointment, it’s not too early to make a reservation.
My DS received his BFE yesterday! Can you tell me, does additional information get sent out within the next few months with information about I-Day, including any additional documentation to bring, and PPW? I guess we thought the BFE included a What To Do Now guide :) My DS did get the tattoo and proof of Citizenship forms mailed in and took the Police Records forms to the appropriate offices, which were the three items listed online after he accepted appointment. I seem to remember DS forwarding me a lengthy guide of some kind from a previous year. We did make travel and hotel arrangements already. Thanks for any clues on what to expect re: additional paperwork/mailings.

Update: nothing in the mail yet! Hoping that by posting something here, it becomes an ironic thought later today that I “just posted something this morning !! ”. Seriously, though, the waiting is a lesson in patience. I cannot recall another time that has been so exciting in a very long time.

Anyone else have a timeline they care to share? DS accepted on Thursday, 1/4. Seems like a month ago, but in reality we are only at the two week mark today [emoji849].

My son received his LOA 11/7/17 official appointment email was 11/27/17 and the BFE came sometime the week of Dec 9-16, my husband and I were on a cruise for our anniversary and my son didn't tell us he received it till we got home on the 16th.

DS received a call from Congressman for USNA appointment offer on 12/28. His portal was updated with the offer in the first week of Jan. However, he never received a BFE. He received no call about WP appointment, but his USMA portal was updated with offer in January and a very nice BFE followed a few days later. Should he expect a formal snailmail from USNA? Thanks

Take a look at the link below - the Permit to Report package for an earlier class. Your DS will get this, updated for 2022. It doesn’t change much from year to year.

DS was notified of nomination from our Congressman late November and received an LOA on 12/2. His portal was updated with nomination on 12/20 and then with the offer of appointment on 1/2. The BFE arrived in the mail Tuesday, so about two weeks later.
