Applicants For The Class of 2023

Haha, we're all on the same team in the end. Except at Army-Navy. I was at the game this year and there was some serious competition.

I applied to NASS session 3 (though I felt like a traitor while doing so). Did you apply?

Is their an essay required for their Summer program application like the USAFA?

Just a "statement" where you described why you wanted to attend the seminar and also what leadership awards you had received. Was very basic and had to be under 1000 characters so it was shorter than one of my usual posts on here. Figured I'd apply for grins in case I end up really liking boats (which is not at all my current case!) and to see if Annapolis is something I would also like to pursue.

NY-04, USNA hopeful so don't hate me too much

Finished AFASS first because it was due a few days ago, and the SLE app was much easier then the NASS one so I finished that too, Will be finishing NASS next week!

How do letters of recommendation work? Do they have any value during the application process? If so who would be the best to ask to write one for me? Thanks guys!

So what do you guys think of the mock elections at Boys State, my representative (not sure what else to call him) from the Legion explained that it was a bit of a popularity contest for the positrons (Gov & Lt. Gov especially) and that the results of said elections are already somewhat decided going into it. I hope it's not that way, but what are you guys hearing?
I went to Boys State last year. In Illinois it was absolutely a popularity contest. Also who could make people laugh. A guy won governor by pretending to be a chicken farmer who mentioned doing unspeakable things with his family. It was quite ridiculous but it was a decent week.

Hey AJ,
You mentioned that you went to Illinois Boys State last year. I'm a fellow Illinoisan and so far everyone I've asked either hasn't heard of the Boys State program or have just heard vague details about it. How did you end up getting sponsored to go? What did you end up doing during the week? Honestly I would appreciate any info or comments you have on the Boys State program.

I actually heard about it very late. A friend of mine at West Point now recommended it. I tried contacting my local American Legion post for a scholarship/sponsor but they never responded(my fault). My parents ended up just sponsoring it. Basically all week there were some meetings you were forced to go to but most of it is just free time. There were a lot of late nights that we ordered pizza and hung out. I didn't love all the government stuff so I just went to some of the seminars that were more fun like the police one where they pepper sprayed people and brought in K9 units. You will have to vote and participate at the local level but it's easy. The leaders of my town were really funny. Their powerpoints always had funny and sometimes inappropriate jokes. Overall, I didn't love it because at times I would find that I couldn't connect with many people but at other times I really loved it. I think it was worth it overall and it definitely helps with applications.

I second that it’s not a good idea to put this information up here, it’s a public forum and you might want to be cautious with what kind of information you release. We already have a GroupMe for several Class of 2023 CC’s, if you would like to join PM me

I too would like to join the group but cannot send PM's. My account is too new. I just heard about this and I love it.

Are you able to send me a PM?

Hi! I would love to join as well. I'm new to this website, so I am unable to PM.
