I know that my brother, as a student at USNA, isn't allowed to have a job during the summer or anything like that. What are the rules for Army ROTC students? Can we have a job during the summer, or get an internship during the summer?

When you are not on active duty I can't see any reason you couldn't have a job or internship. I know several of the ROTC kids around here that are home from school are looking for summer jobs. My D's unit just wanted to know where she would be for the summer and how to contact her if needed.

The service academies are active duty cadets and midshipman and thus receive active duty pay and are not allowed to hold jobs. ROTC cadets & midshipmen are reservists hence the Reserve Officer Training Corps. So yes, you can hold another job.

Son's roomate has a job and a scholarship, he used it to buy a motorcycle:confused: His mother calls it a death machine.

On AD you can have a job, you just have to ask permission from you CC. Spouse worked teaching at the education center as an adjunct professor. Used the money to buy and expensive laptop 12 years ago.

Right answer but wrong reasoning. I don't believe that there is an AR that prohibits any soldier including a Cadet in the summer time during leave from outside employment "moonlighting". There are positions which you are not allowed to take- NAF positions "non- appropriated funds" I think are restricted and off duty employment can not interfere with duty performance.
However a USMA cadet has an extremely finite period of summer leave so limited opportunity at best to work and no opportunity during the school year. An ROTC cadet (unless they are at VMI or the Citadel or similar) doesn't have a restriction on their ability to come and go during the school year other than scheduling, and has much longer period of time durin gthe summer for employment so many - probably most- do have some kind of summer employment and I know that a lot have part time jobs during the school year as well.

My son is AROTC at Indiana University...He has a part time job. There are no restrictions regarding his free time.
