Sports at USMA

I have never heard the USMA at West Point referred to as "the point." 26 + years in our Army.

Perhaps it is generational. I'm not a fan.

Other popular names: Hogwarts on the Hudson.
When my DD took her overnight visit in October, my wife reported that the admissions building reminded her of Hogwarts. I did not make the visit because somebody had to stay home and take care of the dogs. Hopefully my DD will get an appointment so I can make the trip this summer.

According to our son, that thrill lasted about a minute and a half on R-Day, never to return. ;)

Hopefully I won't feel as though I'm spending all my weeks in "my little gray cell" :D

Although I understand that there will be times I must "embrace the suck," I would accept my offer again in a trice--I would be overjoyed if this remained the case over the course of my 47 month journey.

@GoArmy2022 My #3 who is a plebe right still marvels at the fact that he is at West Point.
@USMA 1994 ...saw in the Ass of Grads mag something about "Your Rockbound Highland Home" (isn't there a song about that?)
Hudson High. Hell on the Hudson...Whoop, Whoop, Whoop. (Seem derogatory, right? Apologies..slang and all that. )
However, the Old Grads in my life refer to as West Point or to one another as 'school' or 'at school'

Yes- GoArmy2022, you may be in for a rude awakening- USMA is a great place to be from, .....but at.... not so much...and a plebe.... not at all- .....
word of advice- be careful what you post-

My cadet was on a Sandhurst team his plebe year and he felt that it did help him stay prepared for the APFT. He loved Sandhurst and was glad he chose it. He is in another sport this year.

Hudson High? I’ve heard the cadets call it the South Hudson Institute of Technology.

Is that like 113 days and a wake-up?

Its all in your attitude. You'll have some tough, sucky days, but if you don't fall into the cynical trap most cadets do, regardless of the challenges you're being presented with, you get to spend time with some amazing people doing some pretty cool things. I didn't start absolutely hating my time and couldn't wait to get out until firstie year and that was mostly related to my cadet job at the time that I wanted nothing to do with. Looking back, if I had accepted I was stuck in that job a lot earlier and changed my mindset about it, my firstie year probably would've been a lot different. I still had a great time with my team and my capstone which took up the majority of the rest of my time. I just let the thing I was stuck on most as hating be the thing that clouded my perception the most of what was going on around me.

This isn't me looking back revising history. Plebe year, I honestly had a ton of fun and the shenanigans we pulled, we still laugh about today. Plebe duties are whatever. I had the mindset, if they weren't asking me to do something that was going to hurt me/someone else, was unethical, immoral, or illegal, it didn't matter if it was dumb and just to play along with the game. You're there to learn followership, not just leadership; if you can't take orders, you can't fairly expect others to obey you without hesitation. Yuk/cow years, I traveled quite a bit, had a great time with my team, and loved what I was studying in my major. The caliber of people, cadets and officers, that I had the chance to interact with were on average much higher than those around me on a day to day basis on active duty today.

;tldr - don't be stuck in the cynical yuk phase your entire time at school. You'll waste energy and time on stupid things, and the experience will be gone faster than you realize.

Oh, and in regards to the original question about Sandhurst, most competitive companies will have a great workout program to go along with the skills training you need to complete for the competition. If you're interested in hooah stuff and getting a good workout in, Sandhurst is a good way to go.
