My questions are: 1) Are a candidates chances of securing an appointment increased if they receive three total state nominations (2 Senators + 1 Representative)? Just thinking that means a candidate is in three different slates/pots.

2) If a candidate has also been told they are a blue chip recruit by one of the USAFA athletic programs, does that increase their chances of receiving an appointment? I've been told the coaches don't influence the appointment committee, but one would have to think being tagged a blue chip recruit has some bearing?

National Wait List . Also called national merit pool, it is the ranking of candidates who may not have won the nomination slates they are on, but there are still vacancies in the class. Of this list, the top 150 of this pool is selected in order of merit, and then more, even hundreds more, are selected from the list according to the needs of the Air Force academy to fill the incoming class. Some of this takes time, as it depends upon the number of candidates who accept the appointments offered to them.
