Also, I believe that LOA refers to a 'Letter of Assurance' which is issued assuring the candidate that if they receive a nomination and keep up their academics, etc., they will receive an appointment. LOA does not mean 'Letter of Appointment'. Just clarifying since there are so Appointees who specify 'LOA' and I believe most do not have a Letter of Assurance. This helps this class as well as future classes understand the KP appointment procedure.

Anyone out there with more knowledge to confirm or deny my explanation of 'LOA'?

I always thought it meant Letter of Appointment, that is why I put LOA in appointment description above. If I got it wrong then I apologize because I did not receive a letter of assurance, I received my appointment letter.

Correct. Letter of Assurance comes from KP stating that the Superintendent issues you assurance that, subject to your obtaining a Nomination and being medically qualified by DODMERB, you will be offered an appointment. LOA doesn’t mean you have an appointment yet, not is it what you should put if you simply get an appointment. They are two separate notifications. It is possible that some People could still get LOA at this point, if they have received a Nomination and the academy considers them qualified but they have still not passed DODMERB. But soon there will be no need for LOAs to be issued.
 
My DS posted LOA because he did receive one. He has since recieved an appointment after he met the requirements: a nomination and academically, physically, and medically qualified. He has also turned in his 7th semester grades. The Academy reserves the right to rescind the appointment should my DS slack off with 8th semester grades, or other disqualifying types of activities.

No worries! Just wanted to clarify as it appeared so many were getting 'LOA'. Congrats on your appointment :)
 
As an fyi, most will not have a LOA. They are sometimes used in an attempt to attract athletes for certain sports, or for candidates that they know will have competing offers from other academies, other top tier or ivy league type schools, etc. It is an attempt to "grab" certain applicants and make them commit before they go somewhere else. But, it by no means, means that the LOA recipients are somehow more desired or better than those without a LOA. In fact, on this very board, is the last time any of y'all will ever discuss anything related to LOA

IL and PA are strong on the board early and came out of the gate solid and fast. Ca, Ny, Va, Fl and Tx are all grouped together, but if past races are an indicator, they like to hang back and make a push at the end. IL and Pa need to keep up the pace or the final rush from the more "KP populated" states will come up and overtake them.

No one from my state, in this thread, got an appointment yet. The heat's still on. Phew. I noticed a "principal candidate appointment" on that list. I thought that USMMA doesn't do principal noms?

No, USMMA does not issue principal nominations. I think the poster meant that she received what she thinks is a principle nomination from her MOC.
