Awarded ISR, but portal still says I'm missing several items - what to do...?

DS was awarded an ISR from the NRD (NTAG) CO, but as of today, his application status suggests that the NROTC coordinator has still not submitted required items (evals, transcripts, SOU, drug statement, etc.) and time is obviously running out. Unsure of our best next steps here given he was awarded the ISR and would appreciate any suggestions/advice. Here's the background/details...

DS submitted all of the required items for his application package to the local NROTC coordinator in early January. DS interviewed with a local NROTC unit officer in late January after following up with the coordinator to arrange the interview. DS and local coordinator began receiving automated e-mails (Feb 1, Feb 7, Feb 14) saying aforementioned items were still missing and if not submitted by end of Feb, his application would be canceled . On Feb 7, DS e-mailed the local coordinator and received no response. DS e-mailed an officer at our NRD/NTAG on Feb. 12 asking for alternative path to get the 'missing items' submitted. A few hours later (coincidence???), the local coordinator called and said the NRD/NTAG CO wanted to meet with DS to discuss a possible ISR. DS interviewed with the CO on Feb. 14 and was awarded the ISR on the spot - Hurray! But as of today (Feb 19), the portal still shows that all of the aforementioned items are still missing. While we do not want to rock the boat unnecessarily nor do anything to cause poor reflection upon the NROTC coordinator or his chain of command after being awarded the ISR, we're concerned that we'll either lose the scholarship or lose placement in a choice school if things get delayed too long. Would sincerely appreciate any suggestions here. Thanks so much in advance.

I was awarded an ISR in late December, but my application status didn't change (like you were saying) until about a month later in late January probably because of the holiday season and maybe government shutdown. I'm pretty sure that you don't need to worry about it. Just check the portal every day for the next few weeks and see if anything happens.

Thanks for the reply and congratulations on the ISR! Have you been placed yet?

We talked about it this evening and I think we'll reach out to Pensacola tomorrow to inquire about whether or not we're at risk of forfeiting the scholarship if the deadline passes without the missing items being submitted by the Coordinator. We wouldn't have concerns about waiting a few weeks longer as you suggested, except that the e-mail notifications DS is receiving state that his application won't be processed if everything isn't resolved by the end of the month. The ISR reserves a scholarship assuming the candidate qualifies as specified in the contract (no problem there) and their application is submitted by the deadline and in proper order (the concern here).

Call Pensacola immediately. We had the same issue with my son's NROTC "contact" (who initially tried to talk him out of NROTC/college and recruit him as enlisted--true story). He had materials (we fedexed them), kept promising he would "make time" for a phone interview, etc. My son took initiative and set up his own interview with NROTC unit at nearby university, had a great interview, and then we contacted Pensacola and talked to two people. 10 days later portal is complete. Oh, and the portal did not show his fitness test as outstanding--we found out through the Pensacola guy we needed that too. Lesson learned for my son--don't trust anyone with your future if they don't show respect for your future. Now, we wait.....

Thanks, Jeepman - will do! Best of luck to your son with selection and placement.

It wouldn't hurt to call but I don't think there's any reason to worry either. If he interviewed on Feb 14th, that was a whopping 6 days ago. Two of those days were weekend days and one was a government holiday. I know you YOU that getting the NROTC update is the most important task on the planet but for the Navy, it probably doesn't scratch the top 100,000. This is a government agency we're talking about and as I told my kids from day one with the military...."stand by to hurry up and wait".

Thanks, k2rider. I know you're right about the Navy's prioritization and appreciate that this is most likely much ado over nothing. Just trying to obviate a possible situation where DS gets kicked out of the system, and we have to go through a lot of red tape to get him re-processed and by the time it all works out, all of the units he's placed on his list are full. Yes, I'm a worry-wart father - my poor kids! :)

I recieved the ISR in late december and my portal didn't update until a month later, and I haven't been placed either. I made a concerned post as well but I think we all just need to wait.

BlackIce, does your application status show that your application is at your local Scholarship Coordinator for processing with missing items, or is it in a further workflow state? Again, the concern here is that Pensacola is sending us weekly e-mails saying we're at risk of having our application canceled at the end of February. If the status was something like 'Pending Select Board' or 'Pending Placement' (I don't recall the exact status terms), I wouldn't be worried.

Ah, that is particularly worrisome. The only emails I get are the monthly "account inactivity" ones. My application is finished pending final review by the board, I don't know the exact wording but it says something like that.

Just heard back from the NROTC scholarship coordinator who was very kind and explained that the hold up in submitting the items was to give DS an opportunity to be considered for the ISR (which we VERY MUCH appreciated) and that we can disregard the e-mail warnings about the missing items. If I understand it correctly, if your application is submitted directly to NTSC (Pensacola), there's no chance thereafter to be considered for the ISR - at that point, you're only in the National Pool for selection purposes. Anyway, looks like everything should be on track and the portal status flipped from local to being at CNRC. Overall, we had a great experience with everyone in our NRD/NTAG - hoping my posts in no way came across otherwise. Thanks to all for your responses.
